Access Health Africa

Access Health Africa Improving access to quality health services, edu & resources through community-driven initiatives.

Access Health Africa is a new organization with 15 years of experience, Access Health Africa grew out of World Camp, Inc., a NGO created in 2000. World Camp initially focused on sending international volunteers to Malawi to educate primary school youth about HIV-prevention. As World Camp grew more established, our vision also grew to address health more broadly. We began to educate about locally-r

elevant topics such as deforestation and the gender dynamics that helped fuel the spread of HIV. After over a decade of work in Malawi, our reputation enabled us to partner closely with community leaders, addressing health challenges through in-community health interventions, alongside educational initiatives. Access Health Africa is founded upon these relationships & experiences.

- $20: cost of one person eating lunch at a restaurant, and buys gauze and bandages in Malawi

- $30: cost of eating one dinner at a restaurant, and sponsors one patient to get surgery in Malawi

- $100: cost of a new pair of jeans in America, and sponsors one goiter patient for full pre-op workup, surgery and post up care in Malawi

Patient story: Loreen

For four years, Loreen carried more than just the weight of daily life in her village. She had a lipoma on her side that started small and grew until it was impossible to ignore. It ached, and made her self conscious in front of others. She was nervous about surgery, but determined to get the care she needed to remove the lipoma.
Surgery was successful! It took less than an hour, and Loreen stated from the first check-up to the final dressing application, she felt safe and informed.

"The program is so helpful! I am happy about treatment because I never encountered a problem during the procedure."

To the team that treated her: Thank you for the care, clear explanations, and the steady hands that turned four years of worry into a day of relief. Loreen has now gone home, without the lump, without the pain and with the confidence to wear what she wants again!

Patient story: Lingson

Lingson was born with a lipoma on his forehead. For 20 years, it stayed with him, bringing headaches and pain. It grew worse over time. He sought help twice before, but both times was turned back with only painkillers. This time was different: the surgical team was able to remove the lipoma! After the procedure, the lump and the headache that had followed him for two decades were gone.

We wish you the best, Lingson, as you return to your life without the pain and stigma of a lipoma.

We exceeded our goal of 100 surgeries in 5 days, by completing 120 surgeries in partnership with Mitundu Community Hospital. That's 50 patients who no longer live with the pain of hernia, and 70 patients who can return to pain-free and stigma-free living without a cyst or lipoma.

Zikomo to all the local clinicians, AHA volunteers. AHA staff, and AHA donors who worked to make this a reality! We are so thankful for your genrousity and partnership.
