Same program name, double the support for our local children!

We are so glad to announce that, in addition to Watauga County Schools' Summer Feeding program, we are ALSO providing a Summer Feeding program to families who receive our services. While both programs share the same name, each has a different setup to give your family even more options.

Watauga County Schools is providing on-site meals at two of their schools, while HHC is providing take-home food boxes in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank to help stock your kitchen. You can absolutely utilize both! See the original post below for the school meal schedules, and come see us for your grocery boxes.

Children under 18 years of age are eligible for the HHC Summer Feeding program, in which the family can receive a box of frozen and a box of nonperishable meals. Every child in the household can receive this service once a week (one 1 box of shelf-stable meals and 1 box of frozen meals per child), and these boxes must be picked up on the same day weekly to receive the meals. For example, if your first pickup is on a Tuesday, you must come the following Tuesday to receive the meals again! Families can come to HHC for the boxes from the Summer Feeding program Monday-Friday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The Watauga County Schools School Nutrition Department will provide summer meals at no charge to children and teens ages 18 and younger at Green Valley School and Mabel School.

Breakfast and lunch will be served daily, June 15 through July 10, at Green Valley School, located at 189 Big Hill Road in Boone. All meals must be consumed on-site. No meals will be served on July 3. Breakfast will be served from 7:45 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Breakfast and lunch will be served daily, June 15 through June 30, at Mabel School, located at 404 Mabel School Road in Zionville. All meals must be consumed on-site. Breakfast will be served from 7:45 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

This is made possible through North Carolina SUN Meals programs.

If today could be captured in a single word, it would simply be 'joyous.' Summing up the feeling of our ribbon-cutting, that’s exactly what it was — pure, unfiltered joy.

Thank you to our longtime supporters and new friends who shared the afternoon with us as well as the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce for helping us to celebrate! ✂🎉

We’ve loved serving this community for 44 years, and today proved that the best is still yet to come. We showcased the brick-and-mortar changes we've been making to better serve our community, and introduced many of our supporters to our new Executive Director, Lindsey Sullivan.

In exactly one week, we are cutting the ribbon with the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce on our brand-new renovations! Even if you've been in our building before, we'd love to have you join us from noon to 1 p.m. on June 10 to see all of the changes we've been making.

🎺 Hear ye, hear ye! We, here by decree today Laura Appreciation Day! 🎺

While the nation celebrates Loomis Day — for the person who patented wireless telegraphy — we’re celebrating our very own Laura Loomis legacy. Laura has served as our Kitchen Rescue Program Coordinator for four years, saying that she sees herself as the instrument of the organization who helps reduce food waste from local partners. She took over the reins from her husband, Ben Loomis, who previously oversaw the Food Rescue Kitchen!

On this declared Laura Appreciation Day, feel free to celebrate by seeing how you can reduce food waste in your kitchen! You could also honor the day by eating some of Laura's favorite veggies — greens and root vegetables! Honor Laura’s impact today by taking action for food sovereignty. 🥬🫜🥦

From a church closet to the organization we are now, community support and a heart for your neighbors have been the driving forces of what has made our work possible.
