Congratulations to Mercy Health Foundation Clark & Champaign Counties’ 2026 Give for Good Scholarship recipients! This year, 41 dependents of Mercy Health associates from Springfield and Urbana, Ohio, received a total of $23,000 in educational assistance for the 2026-27 academic year.

24 applicants also received an additional $100 scholarship enhancement because their parent or guardian is a Give for Good associate giving campaign donor. These students each received a total scholarship award of $600, recognizing the impact that employee giving has on supporting future generations.

The Give for Good Scholarship program continues to invest in the future by helping students pursue their educational goals while celebrating the dedication and service-minded values shared by Mercy Health associates and their families.

Tifany Bair spent months searching for a dental provider for her 15-year-old daughter, Ashley. Many offices couldn’t accommodate Ashley’s age or special needs. It took many phone calls across Ohio and even into Pennsylvania, but Tifany finally found the specialized care her daughter needed. And she has donors to thank for it.

Donor gifts support Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital’s special-needs dental clinic. For children and teens with special needs, everyday dental visits can feel overwhelming. But thanks to their support, this clinic provides a safe and understanding environment where progress happens one step at a time.

“They are just awesome with her,” says Tifany. “They understand her fears, her sensory issues and what she can and can’t handle.”

Ashley has received cleanings, cavity treatment and procedures in a hospital setting where staff understand how to support patients with complex needs.

“When we first started coming, Ashley couldn’t even get through a cleaning. Now she can,” says Tifany.

Today, Ashley visits the clinic every three months instead of the traditional six. The frequent, lighter cleanings help lessen her fear and build her confidence. For Tifany, the difference is life-changing — and it’s made possible by generous donors.

“I had a hard time finding anywhere that could help her. Here, they make it all possible,” she says. “I can’t thank the donors enough. This place has been a Godsend. Your support made sure my daughter could get the care she needs without fear.”

When Tom Bonny went into surgery in 2024, he expected doctors to repair a heart murmur. Instead, he woke to the news that his heart needed far more care than anyone realized. He’d needed three bypasses and a valve repair. Donors helped him recover.

Once he returned home, Tom began his rehabilitation at Mercy Health — Marcum and Wallace Hospital. Having these services nearby meant he could focus on healing without the strain of long travel or unfamiliar surroundings.

“I appreciated it being close, simply because my wife could see me regularly, and I knew the rehab folks,” he says. “It felt like home.”

As Tom continues his recovery, he remains grateful that high-quality rehab is available close to home.

“Being able to stay here made all the difference,” he says. “I don’t know what I would have done without it.”

Rob and Dana Loeb appreciated the Mass conducted in the chapel at Mercy Health — St. Anne Hospital. But they also couldn’t help wondering if there was something they could do to see the physical space match the beauty of the service.

“It is always nice wherever you have Mass.” Rob says. “The presence of Christ is the most important thing. But we also wanted to help make it a warm, welcoming chapel.”

That thought set in motion a chapel renovation supported by a group of donors. The chapel is a small and intimate room. The Loebs’ gift helped provide new furnishings, carpeting, lighting, paint and artwork. It even relocated two stained-glass windows that weren’t previously in direct view of the cross.

“We felt it would be nice if the space expressed the beautiful intent of the Mass,” Rob says. “We wanted our gift to give comfort to those in need.”

Mark Meeker and his late wife Sharon started giving to Mercy Health Foundation Lourdes after experiencing the amazing care her father M.L. Driskill received in hospice. They saw it again a few years later when Sharon’s mother, Imogene, also needed care. The personal impact of those services was not lost on Mark. He continues to give, now also in memory of Sharon who received care at Mercy Health — Lourdes Hospital.

Jovonne Washington wasn’t feeling well. But as a member of the homeless population in Lorain, she’d grown accustomed to just dealing with it. That is, until she saw the Mercy Health Community Outreach team arrive at the shelter she calls home. Because of the generosity of donors, she received the health care she needed.

The health screening program grew from a shared goal between Mercy Health and Catholic Charities. The Community Health team was already experiencing success in other high need areas. Expanding services to shelters was seen as a natural next step since many residents face barriers to accessing health care.

“Going to the hospital is pretty hard. Some people are even scared to go because we are in fact, homeless,” says Jovonne. “So, when they come here, it’s easy.”

Donor gifts are delivering health care access without barriers. By meeting people where they are, there is no need for transportation, insurance or appointments. Early detection of disease is very important. These screenings provide that, thanks to donors. Their generosity and caring is not lost on Jovonne.

“Thank you very much,” she says. “You are doing a good and positive thing for us homeless people who are struggling with health care.”

Before a cancer patient can call themselves a cancer survivor, they face a long and difficult road. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery — it can be a lot. Michael Ruebusch was diagnosed with oral and neck cancers. He soon learned that the emotional hardships were just as bad as the physical ones.

That’s why having donors in his corner means so much.

“The mental health aspect of recovering from an illness is just as important as the physical part,” Michael says. “There were moments in recovery when I needed to talk with people who truly understood.”

Michael’s care team at Mercy Health — The Jewish Hospital introduced him to the Head and Neck Cancer Support Group. Donors support this group, and others like it, with generous gifts. For Michael, the group became more than just meetings. It became a lifeline for physical and spiritual healing.

“Hearing other survivor stories, sharing challenges and learning from all the experiences helped me realize I wasn’t alone,” Michael says.

Kayla Miller was facing difficult decisions when she couldn’t find open childcare options for her infant. She wanted to continue her career but also needed daycare for her two young children. She felt overwhelmed. Then she learned of Mercy Tots, the new Mercy Health childcare facility supported by generous donations.

“Mercy Tots works for my family perfectly. I only have to go to one place for all my childcare needs,” Kayla says.

Now, Kayla rejoices that both her toddler and her infant son have a safe, stable and loving environment to spend their days. Mercy Tots allows her to support her family and continue her career.

“It makes my heart happy and content knowing my kids are safe and happy. My daughter loves getting ready in the morning to go to school. She enjoys playing on the beautiful playground and seeing her teachers,” Kayla says. “The baby also has his favorite teachers to cuddle with. Thank you so much for this amazing daycare.”
