Bloomsburg Rotary

Bloomsburg Rotary Service above Self - Humanitarian service to advance peace and goodwill.

The Bloomsburg Rotary Club is a vibrant community of service-minded individuals committed to making a difference—locally and globally. We support scholarships for Bloomsburg High and Vo-Tech students, host leadership programs like RYLA and the 4-Way Speech Contest, and provide quarterly Friendship Meals for families in need. Our members roll up their sleeves for highway cleanups, maintain the Rota

ry pavilion and rose garden, and partner with nonprofits like AGAPE, Panther Packs, and Miracles on Horseback. Internationally, we support ShelterBox, Polio Plus, and water projects in Cambodia, Cuba, and India. We also bring joy to our community through events like TreeFest, National Night Out, and Trunk or Treat. Whether it’s service, fellowship, or fun—Bloomsburg Rotary is where it all comes together.

Our club had the privilege of visiting Eos Therapeutic Riding Center on April 30, and we were truly inspired by the impact this organization has on our community.

Eos has been serving riders for 34 years, caring for 42 horses over that time. They currently have 12 incredible horses in the program. Let’s just say — not every horse is cut out for therapy work. They’re asked to handle unbalanced riders, participate in activities like shooting basketballs (where a ball can bounce back and accidentally tap them), and stand patiently for long periods. The horses who are suited for this work are truly special.

🐴 Program Impact

90 riders currently enrolled

8 veterans ride every Friday

Season runs mid‑March through mid‑November

Programs operate on an ability‑to‑pay basis

A typical ride costs about $45, but no rider is ever turned away

💛 Behind the Scenes

Eos operates on a $350,000 annual budget with a small but dedicated team of 6 certified staff members. Their largest expenses include:

Horse care

Insurance

Specialized acupuncture and chiropractic care to keep their horses healthy and comfortable

🎟 Community Support Matters

Eos relies heavily on fundraising — including events like their popular meat raffle — to keep their programs accessible to all.

🙌 Volunteers Needed

Eos is always looking for volunteers to help with riders during sessions. It’s a meaningful, hands‑on way to support their mission and an amazing experience for anyone who wants to make a difference.

Last week, we were honored to welcome the Interact Club and their advisor, Andrea Heckman, as they shared the incredible work they’ve accomplished this year.

One highlight truly stood out: they have raised an impressive $1,000 for ShelterBox.We are so proud of their dedication, their service mindset, and the impact they’re already making in our community and around the world. These young leaders embody the very best of Rotary’s values, and we’re grateful for their partnership and energy.

A special thank‑you to Andrea for her outstanding advisory, guidance, and commitment to helping these young leaders grow. Her support makes all the difference.

We hope they enjoy a fun, well‑deserved summer break, and we look forward to working with them again next school year. Their enthusiasm and commitment continue to inspire us.

We are excited for tomorrow. Come stop and see us down at the fair grounds for some fun.

From Dino-Man, aka Ammon: This Saturday, May 30, is the Summer Learning Festival, which kicks off our Summer Library Program! This FREE event, which runs from 10am to noon at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds near the free stage, is great fun for hundreds of preschool and elementary kids with many roving friendly dinosaurs (parents, wanna join me in a costume for 20 minutes?), a “Tropical Obstacle” bouncy obstacle course, and lots of engaging learning stations designed by my amazing colleague, Amanda Noblit, Library Director for the Columbia County Traveling Library! For the older kids, we have (child-safe) axe throwing, corn hole, and some building fun.

This is your first chance to register and get started logging your reading and activities on our new Beanstack app (or a paper log if you prefer) and earn a free book and points to win “reading raffle” prizes. Don’t tell your kids, but while they are striving for prizes and free books they are also keep up their reading skills over the summer!

Reading is a “use it or lose it” thing and if they do not read over the summer, they will start the new school year having lost some of their core reading proficiency that they ended the previous school year with — the dreaded “summer slide.” Our goal is to make it so much fun, they don’t notice they are learning! They totally enjoy sponging up information and stories just for fun without it being assigned.

There are opportunities for teens and adults to get in on the reading fun in our summer library program, which is a joint initiative of all three partner libraries. We have some extra programs, including our popular book clubs, and more fun opportunities all throughout June and July!

Visit our Summer Library Program page for more information! https://bloomsburgpl.org/summer/

I am looking forward to lots of summer fun with you all!

(And seriously, if any fun-loving teens or adults want to join me in one of eight inflatable dinosaurs costumes on Saturday for 20 minutes or more at a time, I would love to hear from you at [email protected]!)

🎉 Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Ivy Harrington! 🎉

We had the joy of celebrating Ivy last week — and she brought her biggest cheerleader with her: her aunt, who is just as proud as we are!

Ivy is a Benton senior with a bright future ahead. She plans to attend Misericordia University to pursue Radiology, and we can’t wait to see which path of diagnostic imaging she falls in love with.

She’s a hard worker with 3–4 years at County Fresh Market, a heart for kids and animals, and an eye for detail that will serve her well in the medical field.

And when she’s not studying or working? Ivy is basically a one‑woman hobby machine — archery, knitting, crocheting, roller skating, taking walks… you name it, she’s doing it with a smile.

We’re so proud of you, Ivy! Keep shining, keep exploring, and keep making your family — and your community — proud. 💙💛

🇺🇸 Memorial Day — Honoring Those Who Served

Today, the Rotary Club of Bloomsburg pauses to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting freedom will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a moment to reflect, remember, and express our gratitude.

We honor the fallen.
We support their families.
We continue the work of service in their memory.

Wishing our community a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day.
