Tomorrow's Top Hands is a 3-day junior leadership conference for students ages 14-20 who have an interest in the beef industry.

The North Dakota Stockmen's Association works to unite, protect, promote, educate and serve the cattle industry in North Dakota, and providing youth with opportunities that will help them achieve success is amongst our objectives. With the challenges facing agriculture today, solid leadership is critical in ensuring the success of the beef industry now and into the future. Tomorrow's Top Hands will help students develop skills and make connections that will serve them in their personal and professional lives. The combination of activities and presentations will cover topics like effective communication, teamwork, advocacy and media training, college and career prep, and more with ready application to the beef industry.

That's a wrap on the seventh edition of Tomorrow's Top Hands Beef Leadership Summit! We closed out an incredible weekend learning about beef nutrition, advice and opportunities to get involved in the beef industry and getting hands-on experience with artificial insemination. What an incredible weekend of learning, leadership and new friendships!

What. A. Day. After a morning colors training workshop and career panel with Dustin Elkins, Sheila Ressler and Matt Stroh, Top Hands explored agriculture through an afternoon of industry tours before a fun night of bowling.

What an amazing Day 1 of the 2026 Tomorrow's Top Hands Beef Leadership Summit in Dickinson! Rising industry stars learned about the role of the North Dakota Stockmen's Association, were inspired not to "shrink" their authentic self or dreams to fit someone else's mold, got hands-on practice delivering calves and dealing with dystopia, learned about the importance of recordkeeping, brainstormed ideas for effective beef promotion, education and research projects, learned to grill beef, made new friends and more! Here are just a few of the memories we made. We are looking forward to tomorrow's agenda, including a career panel and industry tours.

The Tomorrow's Top Hands Beef Leadership Summit is a high-energy, power-packed, beef-industry career exploration and leadership development conference to help youth gain connections and develop leadership skills.

The Summit will take place Oct. 22-24 (Teacher's Convention Break) in Dickinson this year.

SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT!

On Thursday, Oct. 17, NDSU Extension Livestock Management Specialist Lacey Quail and NDSU Extension Veterinarian Dr. Jake Galbreath will lead participants through an immersive hands-on calving school, giving them insight into calving records, calving kit preparation and techniques for managing a variety of calving complication scenarios.

MEET THE PANELISTS!

On Friday, Oct. 21, attendees will have the opportunity to meet agricultural professionals face-to-face and ask questions!

Dustin Elkins of Richardton is the senior manager of feed and animal health for the CHS Southwest Grain business unit. In addition to his day job, he, his wife Mandi and daughters Bailey, Sydney and Carley, run a Red Angus/Gelbvieh cow-calf and backgrounding operation and a small flock of Targhee sheep.

Sheila Ressler of Mandan is the director of appraisal at Farm Credit Services of Mandan. In this role, she works with credit staff to provide estimates of value for the real estate which Farm Credit Services holds for collateral on various loans. Sheila and her husband Scott and their two children run a commercial cow-calf operation.

Matt Stroh of Killdeer is a third-generation seedstock producer who ranches with his family, raising Hereford cattle for nearly 80 years. He served on the 2016-2017 North Dakota State FFA Officer Team and has a certificate in auctioneering from the Western College of Auctioneering.
