The Chippewa Valley Chapter in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, hosted its first youth waterfowl education day, welcoming 11 young participants ages 6-14.

The day included hands-on stations covering retriever demonstrations, wood duck box building, a presentation from a Wisconsin DNR conservation warden, duck calling, fi***rm safety, and cleaning. After lunch, youth had the opportunity to participate in trap shooting.

Each participant also went home with Delta hat, duck call, and lanyard. Events like these introduce the next generation to waterfowl hunting, safety, and conservation.

Getting the next generation involved in waterfowl hunting starts with the people willing to introduce them.

For Matt Kneisley, Delta's senior regional director for Pennsylvania and four other states, that means helping volunteers connect young people with hunting and the outdoors. Through local chapters, youth educational and mentorships, Delta members are helping pass the traditions on to the next generation.

Sometimes all it takes is one person to make a lasting impact.
