Gary Kramer, a world-class wildlife photographer and retired biologist, recently announced the release of his newest book. Highways in the Sky: The North American Flyways features 915 outstanding photographs of waterfowl and shorebirds found across the North American flyways in their breeding, migration, and wintering habitats.

Jason Tharpe, Delta Waterfowl's CEO, wrote a foreword for the book, offering readers an introduction to the remarkable world of migratory birds. Tharpe highlights Kramer's perspective on waterfowl and the incredible journeys they make across North America. He’s honored to celebrate Kramer’s stunning book that brings the birds to life while giving readers a deeper understanding on how they survive, adapt, and thrive throughout the continent.

Delta Waterfowl recently honored Justin Grider and Courtney Colley for outstanding collaboration to ensure a strong future for waterfowl hunting. Grider is the R3 assistant chief for the Alabama Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources, Wildlife Freshwater Fisheries Division. Colley is the hunter education and outreach division chief at the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Each was presented with Delta's R3 Partnership and Excellence Award during the Champions of Delta Luncheon on July 26 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Delta is proud to recognize these two outstanding professionals who have helped expand our R3 efforts. Through the R3 program, Delta works with state agencies to recruit, retain, and reactivate hunters. Grider and Colley have worked with Delta to deliver University Hunting Program and other R3 events.

Delta appreciates the continuing support of Grider and Colley and their dedication to grow the hunting community.

Big news for duck hunters: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has finalized the 2026 Hunt-Fish Rule, creating nearly 1,500 new hunting and fishing opportunities across 32 states—including expanded waterfowl hunting access on 41 national wildlife refuges and fish hatcheries.

For nearly a decade, Delta Waterfowl has worked with members, volunteers, and fellow duck hunters to push for greater public-land hunting access. This year’s final rule includes eight refuges identified as priorities by Delta.

The rule also opens first-ever hunting opportunities at new federal sites and simplifies hundreds of existing regulations to better align with state fish and wildlife laws.

Local dollars. Local decisions. Local impact.

Waterfowl Heritage Funds (WHF) allow Delta Waterfowl’s volunteer-led chapters to keep and reinvest up to 15% of their net banquet proceeds right in their own communities. Those dollars support grassroots conservation projects, youth hunting opportunities, habitat improvements and other needs identified by the people who hunt and live there.

Delta volunteers with Greater Longview Chapter, Smith County Chapter, Anderson County Chapter, and Deep East TX Chapters recently put their WHF dollars to work by purchasing a Can-Am for Texas Parks and Wildlife staff working on the Trinity River Wildlife Management Area — a major destination for ducks and duck hunters in the region. The WMA lacked the funds to acquire this important conservation tool, and the chapter was there to bridge the gap.

With mud on the tires and dust on the dash, the new machine is already helping TPWD staff reach areas that were difficult to access and take on more habitat and management work across the WMA.

That means better access for the staff doing the work, more attention on habitat and management projects and, ultimately, a better experience for all who use the area.

Across North America, Delta chapters put WHF dollars to work through projects like wood duck boxes, boat-ramp cleanups, youth hunting opportunities, scholarships, habitat improvements and more.
