Next stop on the summer virtual pilgrimage: Lourdes, France. Millions have journeyed to Lourdes seeking healing, not only of the body, but of the heart and soul. It was here Mary revealed herself to St. Bernadette as the Immaculate Conception and stated: "I do not promise to make you happy in this world but in the next."

At this quiet grotto in France there flows a spring containing waters that have had miraculous powers. In fact, 72 confirmed miracles have taken place in Lourdes since 1858.

But whether or not a miracle is seen, something always changes. You go into the waters carrying your burdens, your hopes, and your prayers . . . and you leave changed.

Have you ever been to Lourdes? Tell us about your experience below!

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Today's feast dates back to the 11th century, but prior to the 17th century the devotion was embraced mainly by mystics such as St. Bernard of Clairvaux and Gertrude of Helfta. In 1673, Margaret Mary Alacoque received a vision of Jesus’ compassionate heart, pierced by the sins of the world, which led to the rise of the devotion. In 1899, Pope Leo XIII consecrated humanity to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He explained the Sacred Heart as both, “a symbol and living image of the infinite love of Christ.”

“O Sacred Heart of Jesus, fountain of eternal life, Your Heart is a glowing furnace of Love. You are my refuge and my sanctuary. O my adorable and loving Savior, consume my heart with the burning fire with which Yours is aflame. Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Your love. Let my heart be united with Yours. Let my will be conformed to Yours in all things. May Your Will be the rule of all my desires and actions. Amen.”
-Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by St. Gertrude the Great

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

We begin our virtual summer pilgrimage in the heart of Umbria, Italy in a town that has inspired generations of faith—Assisi, the home of St. Francis.
Why here? In this year dedicated to St. Francis, there is no more fitting place to pause, reflect, and pray.
Set atop the slopes of Mount Subasio, Assisi rises quietly above the valley below—peaceful, timeless, and rich in spiritual beauty.
The first stop in Assisi is the Basilica of San Francesco, where vibrant frescoes tell the story of a man who gave everything to follow Christ. Beneath it, in the stillness of the crypt, lies his tomb.
Take a moment to imagine standing there.
To consider his call to simplicity, humility, and trust.
To ask how that same spirit might take root in your own life.
But the story of sanctity in Assisi doesn’t end there!
Here you will also encounter:
— St. Clare, whose life of devotion mirrored Francis’s own.
— St. Carlo Acutis, a modern witness whose faith continues to inspire a new generation and the first millennial saint!
Assisi reminds us that holiness is not bound by time—it is always possible, always within reach.

Tag who you'd like to bring with you to Assisi!

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi. As Pope Benedict XVI noted during one of his general audiences, today's feast is meant for us believers to "adore the Eucharist so as to increase in faith, to advance in the practice of the virtues, and to make reparation for offenses to the Most Holy Sacrament."

Take a moment today to say a prayer in thanksgiving for the Eucharist—God's great gift of Himself!

St. Charles Lwanga & Companions — A Story of Courage Worth Knowing

Have you heard of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions? Their story is one of extraordinary courage, faith, and unwavering love for Christ.

Between 1885–1887 in Uganda, King Mwanga persecuted and killed many faithful Christians. Among them were Charles Lwanga and 21 companions, who refused to renounce their Catholic faith or give in to the king’s unjust and unreasonable demands. Their witness remains a powerful reminder that true faith can shine even in the darkest circumstances.

Their story may not be as widely known, but it is one every Christian can be inspired by.

"Father, you have made the blood of the martyrs the seed of Christians. May the witness of Saint Charles and his companions, and their loyalty to Christ in the face of suffering, inspire countless men and women to live the Christian faith."

Today, take a moment to learn about these remarkable Ugandan martyrs — and ask for their intercession for courage, fidelity, and boldness in living our faith.
