For nearly two decades, St. Monica prayed tirelessly for the conversion of her son, St. Augustine (pictured here with her), whose youthful ambitions and wayward choices caused her deep sorrow. Through tears, faith, and unwavering trust in God, Monica never gave up hope. Her prayers were eventually answered when Augustine converted to Christianity and went on to become one of the Church's greatest saints and theologians.
St. Monica's life reminds us that God's timing is often different from our own, and that persistent prayer can bear fruit in ways we may never expect. She is a powerful example of patience, courage, and the enduring love of a mother.
On her feast day, let us ask St. Monica to intercede for our families, especially for loved ones who may be struggling or distant from the faith.
St. Monica, patron saint of mothers, wives, and difficult family situations, pray for us. 🙏
