While VVI is known as an institute for higher Buddhist studies, it is also where young monks live year-round to begin their monastic training. Education includes personal hygiene, how to wear monk robes, how to behave, reading, writing, prayers and meditation. There are currently 27 monks between the ages of 5 and 10, and two teachers in residence along with one class of older, first-year Shedra students, monastery staff and teachers. (Since it is too hot for everyone to stay all year, the upper class shedra monks live and study at VVI only during the winter months.)

Support Needed for Yellow Hats: We are hoping to raise USD $2,400 to order an additional 300 yellow hats. The hats are an integral part of ceremonies. They are handmade by Mr. Tsering, and is the only source of authentic hats in Boudha.

Dear Friends,
The month of June was one of great joy and blessing at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery in Namo Buddha, as 2 years of dedicated effort culminated in the consecration of Thrangu Rinpoche’s Kudung/reliquary stupa, the unveiling of the Collected Works of Thrangu Rinpoche and the Annual Thrangu Tsedrup.
Thanks to Thrangu Media, we have many lovely photos to share along with our brief explanation of the ceremonies.
Thank you for your kind support.
~ Debra Ann
