Berkeley Food Network

Berkeley Food Network We are creating a Berkeley and Albany where no one goes hungry. Join us!

The Berkeley Food Network is a membership organization comprised of agencies in Berkeley, CA that provide emergency groceries, meals, or prepared foods to the food insecure in Berkeley; provide non-food services for those in Berkeley who are food insecure; and support the above agencies with resources or through research and policy-level work. Our primary roles are:
•To be a leader for collaborati

on among all member agencies.

•To coordinate network-level services. We are currently in the planning phase for our food distribution hub.

•To promote awareness and pursue advocacy

•To conduct research about food insecurity in Berkeley and best practices in food insecurity work and disseminate findings to the network

When Betty walks through our doors each week, she’s looking for fresh groceries—but she finds so much more. She finds connection, dignity, and a community that cares. 💚

“They have lots of nice fruits and vegetables… it’s just a wonderful place to come to. You meet people, too. You meet friends.” — Betty, BFN Member

At Berkeley Food Network, we believe access to healthy food creates stability. Through our choice-based pantry model, our neighbors can select the fresh, nutritious items that work best for their households. As Betty puts it: “I like that you can choose what you want, and if you don’t like it, you don’t have to take it.”

It’s an approach that supports both health and dignity. Beyond the fresh food, it’s the environment that keeps her coming back: “The volunteers that work here are so caring, loving and nice and wonderful.”

As the cost of living continues to rise, more people are turning to BFN. For Betty, this access makes a tangible difference: “You save that money for the rent instead of buying food.”

Your gift can double your impact today. A generous $25,000 match is doubling every new monthly gift right now.

Every week, more Berkeley neighbors are turning to Berkeley Food Network for support.

As national cuts to SNAP and CalFresh threaten food access across the country, local families, seniors and students are feeling the impact.

At Berkeley Food Network, neighbors can shop for fresh groceries with dignity and choice while connecting to additional community resources and CalFresh enrollment support.

Your support helps ensure our community continues to have access to healthy food during a time of growing uncertainty.

Right now, monthly sustainer gifts are being matched up to $25,000, doubling your contribution to help keep Berkeley nourished.

Please become a monthly sustainer today. You can give at any level, including $5/month or more, to help sustain healthy food access for Berkeley neighbors.

Meet Ms. Tanya, a longtime Berkeley resident whose family has called Berkeley home for five generations.

Each week, Tanya shops at Berkeley Food Network for fresh groceries that help stretch her budget while staying connected to the community she loves. Her mother also receives groceries through our home delivery program.

Tanya’s story marks the official kick off our Spring Campaign: and the need in our community has never been more critical.

For many neighbors, food assistance means more than meals. It means being able to put money toward rent, medication, transportation and other essentials while continuing to live in the community they call home.

As demand for food assistance continues to rise throughout Berkeley, your support helps ensure neighbors have access to healthy food with dignity and choice.

Please give today. Right now, all monthly donations are matched, doubling your contribution!

It’s mayo time! 🥪 A massive thank you to Berkeley Bowl and their incredible team for this generous donation to the Berkeley Food Network. We had a successful warehouse pickup thanks to the seamless coordination of Berkeley Bowl's marketing and communications manager Chi and warehouse manager AJ. We’re so grateful for local partners who step up to help us tackle food insecurity right here in our community!

Last week, nearly 40 community members, including advocates, partners and staff from Berkeley Food Network and Alameda County Community Food Bank, traveled to Sacramento for California Hunger Action Day.

Our message was clear: California must fund food first so everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

We met with staff from the offices of elected officials to share what’s happening in our communities right now.

Advocates spoke to the real-life impact of policy decisions, especially for immigrant communities. Due to recent federal changes, more than 5,400 refugees, asylees and other humanitarian immigrants in Alameda County are at risk of losing their CalFresh (SNAP) benefits. Without state action, thousands of households could see their grocery budgets cut while the cost of food, housing and fuel continues to rise.

There is still time to change this.

We heard directly from legislative offices that community voices matter. Your voice matters. And it’s not too late to make an impact.

Take a moment today to send a message to Sacramento and urge lawmakers to fund food first at the link in our bio.

Thank you for being part of a community that shows up for one another and works to ensure everyone has access to the food they need to thrive.

1 in 4 people in Alameda County already face food insecurity. With new federal cuts to nutrition programs, even more families are turning to food banks for help.

As California Hunger Action Day (April 21) approaches, we’re urging state lawmakers to take action — fund food banks, protect CalFresh, and expand access to food programs.

Join us and raise your voice for a hunger-free California.

Food Justice Art Build Workshop – Friday, April 17! 🎨

Hosted by the Alameda County Community Food Bank, this art build workshop brings the community together to have fun and explore art as a form of resistance. It’s a space for the soul, mind, and spirit to connect and experience the Food Justice movement through color and creativity.

Together we’ll paint a four-yard-long banner with the slogan “Food is a Human Right” and create signs for Hunger Action Day.

Come one, come all! Everyone is welcome.
