The Child Care Law Center educates, advocates and litigates to make child care a civil right. When all families can thrive, our communities are healthier and more vibrant, now and into the next generation. We are the only organization in the country dedicated to child care law. For more than 40 years, we have worked to make child care more inclusive and just. We are a Support Center for Qualified Legal Services Programs in California.

Please join us in welcoming our new Deputy Director: ✨️ Kiki Poe ✨️
“I believe my work is part of the backbone that helps push social justice work forward. I focus on keeping the house together, organized, running and motivated. This is as crucial to the success of a movement as is the boots on the ground.”
We couldn't agree more and are so excited for Kiki to join our team and help continue the fight for child care justice in California!
Speaking of boots on the ground, not only does Kiki work tirelessly to keep CCLC in order, she is a member of ARMY, the BTS fan club! We look forward to the all-staff dance parties in our future.
Welcome Kiki!

The Senate budget committee has it right: we cannot say that we are saving money for Californians while cutting vital services. All California’s families should have affordable, enriching care for their children and child care providers need to be paid fairly for the expertise they bring into their programs. We urge the legislature to fund the 44,000 promised places and reject the Governor’s proposal to cut already existing spaces. There are already thousands of families in CA without child care. Policymakers cannot pass yet another budget that is balanced on the back of California's most vulnerable populations.

It's 2026. Child care providers are STILL fighting for fair pay.

This Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, we're honoring the child care providers who haven't just shown up for children and families, but who are showing up for us all.
Advocating. Organizing. Demanding to be seen.

Its time for California to act like child care is a priority. Providers are the backbone of every community, and they deserve more than appreciation- they deserve real investment!

To California's child care providers: we recognize you, and we will continue to fight alongside you.

🌸This AAPI Heritage Month, we're proud to spotlight the Asian Early Childhood Education Alliance (AECEA)!
Asian early childhood educators are the backbone of San Francisco's child care community- nurturing our youngest learners, bridging cultures, and showing up every single day. But too often, their voices are left out of the research, policy conversations, and funding decisions that shape their work.

That's where AECEA comes in.

AECEA is working to change that by listening directly to Asian ECE providers, learning what challenges they face, what opportunities exist, and what support would make the biggest difference. Their goal is to:
✅ Inform policy conversations
✅ Improve working conditions for the ECE workforce
✅ Advocate for meaningful resources and support
✅ Ensure Asian educators have a seat at the table
If you're an Asian early childhood educator in San Francisco, YOUR story matters. Visit aecealliance.org to learn more and make your voice heard.

Senate budget committee members are standing up for child care and holding California to its promises! Thank you Senator Menjivar for your leadership. Than you to the child care champions who are stepping up, especially at a time when we are seeing de-valuation and de-funding of child care at a federal level.

Last week our Executive Director Maisha Cole spoke on a panel at the SoCal Grantmakers Public Policy Conference.
The panel, "Reimagining the Care Economy from Birth Equity to Elder Care", brought funders and advocates together to share their thoughts on rising costs, looming federal cuts, and how we can identify common ground, align narratives, and develop actionable strategies to mobilize philanthropy behind a unified, durable care movement in California.
Thank you to SoCal Grantmakers for hosting such a great discussion, and for all of those who attended the conference. We had a blast!

We want to thank the senate budget committee for their proposal to fund the promised child care spaces. California’s parents and providers have worked hard to make it clear that policymakers cannot balance the budget on the backs of our most vulnerable communities. When every person can work, live, and raise their family with dignity, a more equitable society is possible for everyone.

You can read more about the proposal here:

📣 Budget Committee Chairman Jackson is right.
“Families are experts in their lives, and we should not be forcing them into things that the system currently has but rather listen to them to make sure the system works for them. It isn’t a system- but rather a way for them to grow and thrive.”

We are urging the legislature to reject cuts to child care, fund the promised child care spaces and prioritize the transition to pay child care providers based on the true cost of care.

This Arab-American Heritage Month, we're spotlighting one of our incredible community partners: IRC San Diego (International Rescue Committee). 🌟

IRC San Diego serves as a true one-stop resource for immigrants and refugees, offering immigration legal services, workforce and small business development, financial and digital literacy, and case management to support housing, food security, and healthcare access.

Whether someone is newly arrived or has been here for years, IRC San Diego is there to help them thrive.

San Diego is home to a vibrant Arab-American community, many of whom have rebuilt their lives here after fleeing conflict and persecution in countries like Syria and Iraq. IRC San Diego has been a steady, welcoming presence for these families, offering services in Arabic and meeting people where they are as they navigate a new country.

If you or someone you know could benefit from their services, learn more here: rescue.org/SanDiego
We're so grateful for the work they do every day to welcome and uplift our communities. 💙
