Madison County Tenants Union

Madison County Tenants Union We believe housing is a human right. We stand against eviction, abuse from landlords, & homelessness. It doesn't have to be this way. We deserve better. JOIN US!

We fight for a day when we have won homes for all, once and for all, in Madison County by working together. Many kids and families in our neighborhoods are facing hard times. We are the Madison County Tenants Union. We have conversations with our neighbors. We are hard working local residents and tenants who want to hear from others. We work together to solve problems and build neighborhoods we ca

n all be proud to call home. Our voices matter more than ever because WE have the power in our hands to turn things around for tenants, renters, and all working families. Many rich folks make money hand-over-fist while the rest of us struggle. Are you tired of feeling hopeless about the problems we face? Do you want to be part of solving them? We can build healthy neighborhoods for tenants, but only if we listen to each other and work together. Sign up to stay in touch with us and learn about ways you can take action for our future!

Evictions Update: 42 evictions were filed in Madison County in April. Unfortunately, 42 families facing court eviction each month is typical for our county.

Nonetheless, there has been an overall decrease in the filing rate for 2026 so far compared to the last few years. If the trend continues, we would see the fewest filings since 2022. We will continue to monitor eviction filings as our neighbors face economic uncertainty and high prices.

URGENT ACTION FOR TODAY! Takes 3 minutes! Let's get this across the finish line

Calling all Welcome Home Kentucky supporters–today and tomorrow are the final 2 days of the legislative session, the culmination of our past year of work! Send this post directly to anyone in your life who cares about everyday Kentuckians, and make a call yourself too!

We have reason to believe there is a real shot at finally getting our dismissed eviction expungement bill passed, in the final 2 days of the session.

HB 338 removes dismissed evictions from people’s records, which is nearly 45% of the 40,000 evictions filed yearly in Kentucky! It also prevents children from being listed on eviction filings. It passed the House with massive support in a vote of 95 to 0–so we know it has the political will to pass, if the Senate can just pick it up!

The KY state legislature is only in for two more days (April 14th and 15th).

Here’s what to do - take 5 min to dial 1-800-372-7181 today 7 am to 6 pm ET. You’ll get connected to an operator and then you say “I would like to leave a message for all Senators. Please prioritize and pass HB 338 immediately. We can’t go another year without real housing legislation - the House passed HB 338 95-0, and now it’s your turn!”

EVICTION RATE UPDATE FOR MADISON COUNTY:
31 evictions were filed in Madison County this March.

48 court evictions were filed in Madison County, KY this February.

In January, there were 42 evictions filed in Madison County District Court. So far in 2026, through March 31, our annual total is 121 eviction filings. This number does not reflect all of those who received a notice to vacate the property from their landlord but moved before a forcible detainer was filed in Madison County District Court.

Want to fight evictions and support tenants?

The next monthly MCTU meeting is Thursday, May 14, at 6 PM! We will be meeting at the Berea Branch of the Madison County Public Library.

What’s going on with Welcome Home Kentucky’s eviction expungement bill HB 338? 🤔

After passing the Kentucky House with massive support in a vote of 95 to 0, HB 338 got added to a Senate housing omnibus bill, called SB 9. This mega bill, which combined several bills in one, became controversial and did not pass the KY Senate–but that’s not because of HB 338!

The KY state legislature is now on recess and comes back for two final days on April 14 and 15. Let’s keep the bipartisan, commonsense housing bill that will help tens of thousands of Kentuckians stay more stably housed every year! WE CAN’T WAIT ANOTHER YEAR for a housing bill with this much support!
We need your help to pass HB 338 once and for all through a final upswell of grassroots support:

☎️ dial 1-800-372-7181 (Spanish: 1-866-840-6574), Monday - Friday, 7 am to 6 pm ET. Tell them: “I would like to leave a message for all Senators: The House passed the eviction expungement bill 95-0, but the senate ignored it as part of omnibus bill SB 9. Urgently advocate Senate Leadership to pass HB 338 on April 14.”
