Thank you Ballers & Brews for not only joining our new Dish Program to bring reusables to Central Oregon and reduce food service waste, but for sponsoring our All Staff Fun Meeting!

Every month our team spends a “staff meeting” doing something fun, and this month pickleball was exactly what we needed to peel our eyes from our screens and move our bodies 💪

The Green Tour is your opportunity to see some of the greenest buildings, homes and gardens in Central Oregon! We are looking for volunteers who are excited about all our amazing tour sites, to be stationed at a site for half the day to welcome guests! If you are one of the many Central Oregonians that do not have AC, making smoke season brutal? this one is for you (and us tbh).

DIY Box Fan Filter:
You will need
-1 box fan
-4 Merve 13 Air Filters (this type can filter wildfire smoke particles)
-1 20x20 piece of cardboard (we used the cardboard box our fan came in!)
-hella duct tape

Steps:
1. Tape your filters together like a box! make sure the arrows on the filters are pointing IN!
2. Tape your cardboard square to the bottom of your box.
3. Tape your box fan to the top, making sure the airflow is leaving the box, as you will want the air the fan pulls to come through the filter!
4. Make sure there are no holes.
5. Write a letter to your senators and congressperson expressing how wildfires in your region are caused by climate change and it’s impacting human health forcing you to build this DIY air filter because you don’t have AC.
6. All done! Enjoy clean air!

But for reals, wildfire smoke disproportionately impacts people who live in older homes that don’t have AC. back in the day, we just opened our windows at night, and older homes don’t have always have AC. Individual actions are important but systemic change is the only way we handle fire season! 🔥 🔥 🔥 stay tuned for ways you can get involved with local climate policy 👀

What if we fix what’s broken instead of buying brand new? Could be cute!

We had so many amazing fixes last night, we couldn’t fix them all as there were some ✨complex✨ items, but thanks to our volunteer fixers, y’all saved money and kept your stuff out of the landfill!

This weeks Repair Café is at the brand new central Deschutes Public Library on Wednesday the 26th from 5-7pm! We will have fixers that can help you with… bikes, jewelry, small appliances, electronics, tech, wood working, knife sharpening and we will have SEVEN sewists! Our sewists will be able to hand stitch delicate fabric, machine sew gear, patch holes… you name it. This is your chance to fix those jeans with the blown-out knees or the shirt that’s been missing a button since 2019.

Repair Cafés are about fixing things together and learning new skills, so come prepared to learn how your item gets fixed!

It’s like a tour of homes but green!!

The Green Building Tour is your chance to step into the most sustainable homes and buildings in Central Oregon! This self guided tour allows you to spend the day bouncing around all the locations we curated, and gain inspiration for your own green home! Owners will be onsite to answer questions, share their secrets, and show off some of the most innovative, sustainable builds in the area!
