Thrive Central Oregon

Thrive Central Oregon The mission of Thrive Central Oregon is to connect individual needs with community resources. Thrive is based on the Social Worker in the Library program.

We assist with critical connections to housing, physical and mental health services, employment, basic needs, and many more resources. Thrive Central Oregon meets families and individuals - our neighbors - in public spaces to connect them with the assistance they are looking for. There are many resources in Central Oregon, but the landscape can be difficult to navigate alone. We connect with folks

and utilize a holistic, individual-led approach to services, and in doing so we help access affordable housing and financial security in a sustainable and trauma-informed way. We want to create safe places for individuals to connect with community resources, including assistance and support in accessing housing, physical and mental health services, employment, and basic needs. Many individuals use libraries and other public spaces as a means to come in from the outdoors, relax, and use facilities & computers. Having a social worker available in these spaces increases connections between those in need and the community resources that exist to support them, and decreases stigma and alienation. Since September of 2015 Thrive has had the opportunity to collaborate with the Deschutes Public Libraries and partner with United Way of Deschutes County to provide easily accessible, one-stop, social service supports to community members in need.

Did you know that Thrive is one of our region's Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) housing benefit distributors? The HRSN program is a benefit for Oregon Health Plan members, that covers non-medical, social support services for qualifying members experiencing major life transitions and challenges. Our hardworking and diligent Bri was able to mail ALL these checks yesterday!

How do I find out more? If you have OHP and you're experiencing a major life transition involving your housing, you may qualify for support (there are specific eligibility guidelines).

To find out more you you can do any of the following:
- reach out to your Thrive Advocate
- call 211
- go to pacificsource.com/medicaid/your-plan/HRSN-health-related-social-needs
-----------------

Once a month the team has a little Bunchluck before staff meeting - and that day was today 🍳 🍎 ☕️

Fueling up before we meet the community ♥️

It's nearly back-to-school time, so this month we take a deep dive into our work with children and families in Central Oregon.

A lot of our work with families is housing-related, of course. We help families of all shapes and sizes search for, apply for, navigate, move into, and maintain their homes. We know how important it is to have a stable home and support system in childhood, so we support in any way that we can with parents and caregivers!

What happens when families come to see Thrive?
>>As with any initial meeting with Thrive, we start by getting to know each other and building a relationship. We find out what brought a family to see us, express gratitude to them for showing up for themselves in this way, and honor the bravery it took to seek help.

In addition to housing, other resources we may connect families with are varied and expansive:
💚Provide resource connections to basic needs like food, laundry, hygiene items, school supplies
💚Search for and connect with medical and mental health providers
💚Help families apply for health insurance
💚Provide information about Oregon Department of Human Services programs
💚We partner directly with ODHS in Prineville, Madras, and Warm Springs, receiving referrals and providing support for those in the TANF program.
💚Refer families to disability and school-related supports in the community

A huge thanks to our first Citizenship Fund donors, who came in with $1,000 each. Another $1,000 and we will have met our first goal!
~
Please reach out to our Executive Director, Sarah Mahnke if you can donate funds to help individuals pay immigration fees toward citizenship. Every single dollar helps and goes directly to helping someone meet their naturalization goal!

July* Thrive Impact -- even though July was a little slower than usual, we still met with folks 578 times and assisted 7 families in moving into their new homes 🏠💚

(*Please note, if you received our newsletter, this infographic accidentally said August!)

August is a time when families start getting ready for back-to-school. It can be exciting, but stressful- even in the best of times. Right now there are children in our community who need more than school supplies (though if you do need school supply help, see our section on Back-to-School Resources on our website!).

Some children need allies so their families feel safe sending them to school, and some children who need fresh water, food, and hygiene items. Every child is our child. In our community, in our world, there is no child that should live their life scared or wondering when they will have a safe place to sleep, when they will see their parents again, or where their next meal will come from.

Every child deserves love, care, and nurturing.
