What you put on your lawn doesn’t always stay there. When it rains, fertilizers can wash into our waterways, harming fish, plants, and the entire ecosystem.

Tip: Wait for dry weather before applying and follow recommended amounts, it’s better for your yard and our water.

Let’s work together to Be the Solution to Water Pollution.

Protect more than your lawn. Pesticides can travel farther than you think, a single rain can wash them into storm drains, streams, and bays, harming fish, pollinators, and plants along the way.

Our tips? Choose targeted treatments, apply only when it’s dry, keep chemicals away from drains.

Healthy lawns and healthy waterways can go hand in hand!

Dogs are great, but their mess isn’t. Pet waste carries bacteria that can wash into our local water systems, harming fish, wildlife, and even people. Chester Moore reminds us: always bag it, trash it, and be the solution to water pollution in Southeast Texas. 🐟🐾

Lowering waste isn’t just about keeping our streets clean, it’s about protecting our water, conserving resources, and creating a healthier environment for everyone.

Here are some of our favorite tips:
Secure waste: Keep trash contained so it doesn’t blow or wash into waterways.
Keep clean: Maintain public spaces, shorelines, and storm drains.
Dispose safely: Follow proper disposal for hazardous items like chemicals, paint, and batteries.

When we all do our part, we protect our environment and ensure clean water for future generations.

Small but mighty, and in need of our protection.
The Black-Spotted Newt, found in southern Texas wetlands and streams, has permeable skin that absorbs what’s in the water around it. Unfortunately, this makes it highly vulnerable to pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other pollutants.

Here's how you can help:
- Limit chemical use in your yard and choose eco-friendly alternatives.
- Dispose of hazardous household products properly at local collection centers to prevent runoff.

Clean water is essential for all of us, including the wildlife that calls Southeast Texas home. Be the Solution to Water Pollution in Southeast Texas!

One small piece of litter can leave a BIG impact.
Just one cigarette butt can contaminate up to 8 gallons of water with toxic chemicals like ni****ne, arsenic, and lead.
When cigarette butts wash into storm drains, they release these toxins into rivers, bays, and oceans. This harms fish, birds, and other wildlife.

Be the Solution:
- Always dispose of cigarette butts in a proper receptacle.
- Join community cleanups to remove litter before it reaches our waterways.

Be the Solution to Water Pollution this Fall 🍂
As the leaves start to fall and the weather changes, let’s do our part to keep Southeast Texas waterways clean. Small steps make a big difference! Here are some simple fall tips:

Rake responsibly – Don’t let leaves pile up in storm drains. Compost or bag them instead of blowing them into the street.
Use lawn care wisely – Limit fertilizers and pesticides. Rain can wash these chemicals into creeks and rivers.
Pick up after pets – Cooler weather doesn’t mean less responsibility. Bag and trash pet waste to prevent bacteria from polluting water.
Check your car for leaks – Oil, antifreeze, and other fluids can wash into storm drains when it rains.

Together, we can keep our community and waterways clean this fall. 🍁💧

Myth: Storm drain water gets treated before it reaches our waterways.
Truth: In Southeast Texas (and most communities), storm drains carry rainwater, and anything in it, straight into our bayous, rivers, and bays without treatment. That means litter, chemicals, oil, yard waste, and pet waste can pollute our water within minutes.

Be the Solution:
Never dump anything into storm drains.
Keep trash, leaves, and grass clippings out of the street.
Clean up spills immediately and dispose of waste properly.

With a little creativity and awareness, we can prevent litter, keep harmful chemicals out of storm drains, and protect our rivers, bays, and drinking water. Social media give us the tools to spread awareness and inspire everyday change, but it’s our actions that make the difference.
