Keep Your Pets Safe This Halloween! 🐾🎃

Halloween is full of fun, costumes, and plenty of treats, but it’s important to keep our four-legged family members safe! Here are a few tips to do, just that.

🍫 Keep Candy Out of Reach: Chocolate and xylitol are toxic to dogs and cats. Keep candy bowls and treats safely away from curious paws.

👻 Choose Costumes Carefully: If your pet dresses up, make sure their costume allows them to move, breathe, and see comfortably.

🚪 Secure Your Pets: With trick-or-treaters coming and going, keep your pets in a quiet, secure room to prevent accidental escapes and reduce stress.

📍 Microchip for Extra Protection: Even the most careful pet parent can have an escape artist. A microchip with current contact information helps increase the chances of being reunited if your pet gets lost. Check your chosen database to be sure all of your pets microchip information is current and up to date. You do not need your vet, us, animal control or anyone else to do this. You can do it all yourself online and often, for free; all you need is their microchip number. ☺️

PET OF THE WEEK: SUNSHINE! ☀️

Meet Sunshine, a 90-pound ray of sunshine with a big heart and a surprisingly important job here at the shelter! 💛🐾

Sunshine has become quite the mentor to some of the younger pets in our care. She’s been helping them learn good manners, practice boundaries, and figure out how to be their best selves. Honestly, she’s been an awesome resource, and we think she deserves a gold star for her work as a furry life coach! ⭐

When she’s off the clock, Sunshine enjoys the simple things in life, like rolling around in a nice sunny spot and soaking up those warm rays. ☀️

Now it’s her turn to find a family who will let HER relax, enjoy life, and be loved as much as she deserves!

Sunshine is dog-friendly, but she is NOT a fan of cats. Because she’s a big girl, a home with older children who understand animal boundaries would be the best fit. You’ll have a meet-and-greet and a foster-to-adopt arrangement to make sure everyone is set up for success.

At just under 3 years old, Sunshine has plenty of life ahead of her, lots of wisdom to share, and a whole lot of love to give. ❤️ Sunshine is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped so she’s go-home ready!

Mission Monday! It really does take a village.

One of the biggest things we want you to know is just how much we appreciate every single person who thinks of HSSET when they have something to give. Whether you’re dropping off a bag of dog food, donating cat toys, bringing in cleaning supplies, or making a monetary donation, please know that it ALL matters. 🐾

Maybe you have a bag of open food your pet didn’t care for, collars and leashes, office supplies, scratching posts, or toys your pets no longer use. Maybe you’ve recently lost a beloved pet and want to make a donation in their memory. Maybe you’re able to set aside just $5 from each paycheck to support our mission.

Every little bit adds up, and every single bit makes a difference. ❤️

As a shelter, we rely heavily on donations to keep our doors open and continue doing what we do. From keeping the lights on and the animals fed, healthy, vetted, and happy both in the shelter and in the community, to making sure we can continue paying the staff who show up every day to care for them, your support helps make it all possible.

Update: adopted!

🐾 PET OF THE WEEK: MANHATTAN 🐾

Meet Manhattan! This little 18 pound guy is a Dachshund and Blue Heeler mix with a VERY sweet soul and a world he’s still learning to trust.

Manhattan can be a little nervous around men, so he’ll need a home with patient, gentle people who are willing to let him warm up at his own pace. And remember, he’s just a little guy! Even if you’re a short king, you’re still a giant in Manhattan’s eyes. 😂💙

Since coming to us, he’s gotten a little braver, but there are still so many things he hasn’t had the chance to experience at only 3 years old. He needs someone who will show him that the world isn’t always so scary and that there are good people out there who will love him just as he is.

The good news? Manhattan is cat friendly AND dog friendly! 🐶🐱 He’s a sweet little baby who just needs a little patience, a lot of kindness, and someone willing to help him build his confidence.

His adoption fee is $119 and he will go home neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Come meet this little sweetheart and give him a chance to find his safe place. He deserves it. ❤️🐾

BIG DOGS, BIG PERSONALITIES, LITTLE ADOPTION FEES!

It’s time to show off some of our big ol’ goobers! 😂❤️

From the nearly 100-pound gentle giants to the dogs hovering right around that 50-pound mark, we’ve got BIG dogs with BIG personalities just waiting for somebody to take them home.

And listen, not everybody takes a perfect photo so these are specifically chosen to show their… character.👀 Some of these dogs are goofy, some are action shots, and some have got absolutely NO idea what’s going on and we love that for them. So we’re sharing a few pictures that show a different side of the dogs waiting for their people!

🐶 Dogs over 50 pounds: JUST $50 TO ADOPT!

Some of our dogs already have sponsored adoption fees, which means they can go home for $0! Others over 50 pounds will be just $50. Smaller animals and dogs under the weight cutoff will have their regular adoption fees.

Every animal goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on eligible vaccinations. ❤️

Whether you’ve got room for a nearly 100-pound best friend or you’re looking for a slightly smaller big dog, we’ve got options!

Come meet your new best friend at HSSET before this special ends Sunday. These big babies have a whole lot of love to give, and we’d really like to see them get their chance at a couch, a family, and a home of their own.
