🚨 Medical Foster Needed ASAP 🚨

We’re looking for medical fosters for Cove, Coral, Isla, and Sandy.

These sweet puppies have been sharing a kennel, and one of them is currently showing signs of ringworm. Because they’ve all been exposed, we’re treating all four as a precaution and need to get them out of the shelter while they complete treatment.

The good news is that one foster does not need to take all four puppies. In fact, finding two or more fosters would be ideal so we can spread them out and get everyone comfortable as quickly as possible.

Ringworm sounds scary, but it’s a very treatable fungal infection. Our team will provide all supplies, guidance, support, food, and anything else these babies need while they are in foster.

Medical fosters are truly lifesavers. Not only do they give pets a quieter place to heal, but they also help us free up much needed space here at the shelter and reduce the risk of exposure to other animals.

If you’re already an approved foster, please give us a call!

If you have not fostered with us in the last couple of years, please complete a new foster application at www.HSSET.org/foster.

Please share. The faster we can get these puppies into foster homes, the better. ❤️🐾

Last week was a good week and we got to send home quite a few happy tails🥰

Here are the adoption photos we got plus our intake and adoption numbers all wrapped up in a bow!

MASSIVE thank you to everyone who opened their hearts and homes to a shelter pet. They appreciate you more than you know. Please remember during the transition period that their whole lives have just changed and that takes a little getting used to! New places, people, routines, smells and rules. They have a lot to learn. We’ve talked about the 3/3/3 rule and adopters should expect at least 3 months of adjusting to everything. If you’re potty training or training a puppy, you’re in our hearts and prayers. 😅 There’s not necessarily a hard and fast rule for how quickly that should be done but you’ve got this!

We can’t do all that we do without the support of our community. SO if you’ve donated, shared or engaged with a post, adopted through us or our Pawsitive Placement Program, or supported our Low Cost Spay, Neuter, and Wellness Clinic we appreciate you more than you know. You’re helping countless animals throughout our community receive quality care or life saving kennel space.

If you’re interested in potentially adopting please check out our website. Our “Adopt” tab features animals from our care directly available through adoption and our “Pawsitive Placement Program” tab gives a spotlight to animals in need throughout our community that are being fostered by individuals to help them avoid the shelter completely.

Southeast Texas summer is no joke for pets.

As temperatures rise across the Golden Triangle, a few simple steps can help keep your furry family members safe, cool, and comfortable.

✅ Keep fresh water available at all times
✅ Make sure there’s plenty of shade for outdoor time
✅ Limit walks on hot pavement (if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws)
✅ Plan ahead for safe travel - never leave pets in a parked car

We hope these reminders help you and your pets enjoy a safe and happy summer.

Save this post for later and share it with fellow pet families. We’re all in this together.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there today! ❤️

Whether you’re a dog dad, cat dad, human dad, foster dad, stepdad, grandpa, or filling a fatherly role in someone’s life, we hope you know how appreciated you are.

Thank you to everyone who shared photos of their HSSET alumni with their dads. Seeing these happy faces, both two legged and four legged, is such a good reminder of why we do what we do. Every adoption is about more than finding a pet a home. It’s about creating families, memories, and the kind of bonds that last a lifetime.

Today we’re celebrating the dads who never miss a walk, always share their spot on the couch, sneak extra treats when nobody’s looking, and love their pets (and kids of course) like family.

From all of us at HSSET, we wish every dad, and every pet who thinks their dad hung the moon, a very Happy Father’s Day! 🐾💙

Have you adopted from HSSET recently… or not so recently?

Lately we’ve been spending a lot of time with some of our long term residents, and if we’re being honest, we could use a little reminder that it all pays off in the end.

We know there’s someone for everyone. We know their day is coming. But when you’re throwing a ball for a dog like Dolly, who has spent nearly 700 days waiting for her family, it can be hard not to wish that day would come a little sooner.

So we need your help. Please please show us:
1. The puppy you adopted 12 years ago who now has six teeth left and still “chews” (gums?) Papaw’s house slippers for comfort.
2. The kitten you adopted last week who has already bent a set of blinds doing parkour through the living room. Heads up. The live action ping pong never stops, cats are weird.
3. The dog you swore would never be allowed on the furniture but now has their own blanket, their own spot on the couch, and a permanent dent in your mattress.
4. Tell us about your dad that didn’t want another pet and now introduces them as “his baby.”

We want the stories. We want the photos. We need to see the happy endings. SO please spam the comments, our messages, our email, tag us in posts with your HSSET adoption stories and your favorite fur-ever family photos. Every single one reminds us why we keep believing in the pets that are still waiting. We’d love to share some of these to our page to spread some of the hope too🥹

A huge thank you to the YMBL Beaumont for their generous support of the us over here at the Humane Society of Southeast Texas and the Rogers Spay Neuter Clinic!

Thanks to their funding, we were able to purchase two new refrigerators and a chest freezer for our clinic. These upgrades are more important than they may seem. Our team relies on proper cold storage every day to safely store vaccines, medications, and other essential medical supplies used to care for the pets that come through our doors.

Before receiving this support, we were making do with a 23 year old refrigerator and a dorm sized mini fridge. The new equipment provides the reliable storage our growing clinic needs to continue serving pets and the people who love them.

We are incredibly grateful to the YMBL of Beaumont for investing in our mission and helping us provide better care to animals throughout Southeast Texas. Thank you for making a lasting impact in our community! 🐾💙

Pet of the Week: Honcho

Some dogs have a way of making friends wherever they go, and Honcho is definitely one of them.

This handsome 3 year old Pit Bull mix came to us from another local rescue and has been patiently waiting for a family of his own for 36 days. At 55 pounds, he’s the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. Honcho is dog friendly, loves spending time with people, and has quickly earned a reputation as a total lover boy.

It’s hard not to notice his striking looks. His snow white coat and beautiful gray eyes turn heads everywhere he goes. He even has a big round patch of darker fur right above his tail that might as well be a target showing you exactly where to scratch when you want to remind him he’s loved. A few good butt scratches and you’ll have a best friend for life.

Thanks to a kind community member who previously adopted one of our pets, Honcho’s adoption fee has been sponsored, which means he can go home with the right family at no cost.

If you’ve been looking for a loyal companion who is equal parts handsome and sweet, Honcho may be your guy. Come meet him and see why everyone here is rooting for him to find his home soon. 🐾❤️
