We train, educate, advocate, and raise awareness about domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault at EVERY opportunity we get. We teach about the warning signs, the dangers of strangulation, escalating violence, coercive control, trauma bonding, and the very real risk of homicide. We encourage victims to speak up, report abuse, seek help, and trust the systems that are supposed to protect them. But what happens when they do EVERYTHING we encourage them to do, and the system still fails to keep them safe? Behind every statistic is a human being whose life matters. Let’s do better Michigan.
A recent report released by police and the YWCA found domestic violence cases in Kalamazoo County are becoming more severe and more deadly.
