Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches

ASYR is 100% privately funded and a 100% free service to children in crisis. The Ranch is a transformative family-style foster care program.

Founded by the sheriffs of Arkansas in 1976, Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches has provided hope, healing, and a home to thousands of children from every corner of the state. Since 1976, Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches has provided more than 2,300 children with a place to call home. Many children come to the Ranch with a history of maltreatment or lack nurturing family relationships. We provide a

healthy, emotionally-supportive home environment. At the Ranch, we help children feel safe and trust others. Children at the Ranch learn to cope with emotions while learning responsibility, gaining life skills, building healthy boundaries, and improving self-confidence. At the Ranch, caring staff provide children with support and stability. Ranch staff help children believe in themselves and teach them to live healthy, fulfilling lives. This commitment extends from our board of trustees to dedicated houseparents. There is no “up and out” policy at the Ranch. Residents may stay at the Ranch for as long as they need a home, up to age 21. Ranchers may continue through post-secondary education and/or obtain stable employment. 🐾 Happy National Dog Day!
Did you know the Ranch has two hardworking livestock guardian dogs?
Hero, our loyal Anatolian Shepherd, faithfully watches over the cattle, while Mio, our Great Pyrenees puppy, is learning the ropes as the goats' future protector. Together, they're an important part of Ranch life, helping keep our livestock safe day and night.
Mio's journey to the Ranch was made possible through the generosity of Joe Sifford, Susan Reeves, Steven Gammill, Calvin Dennis, Ashley Pickering, and Rhonda Melton and coordinated by houseparent Cynthia Corbett. We are incredibly grateful for their gift and for Susan Reeves' dedication to training Mio before he joined our Ranch family. Their kindness has provided our children and animals with a loyal companion who will serve the Ranch for years to come.
At the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, creating a safe, stable environment is at the heart of everything we do—for our children, our livestock, and yes, even our four-legged team members. Hero and Mio remind us that everyone has a purpose, and every role makes a difference.
Today, we celebrate Hero, Mio, and all the dogs whose loyalty, courage, and unconditional love make the world a better place. Thank you to everyone who helped bring Mio home to the Ranch. 💙🐶💚

💙 August 17 is National Nonprofit Day—a celebration of organizations and the people who choose to make a difference. Every day, nonprofits work to strengthen communities, meet critical needs, and create opportunities for people to thrive. Together, they remind us that lasting change happens when compassionate people come together with a shared purpose, just as the Sheriffs of Arkansas did 50 years ago.
At Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, our mission is to provide safe, loving homes where children can heal, grow, and build brighter futures. For 50 years, we've had the privilege of serving Arkansas children because of the generosity of people who believe every child deserves hope and a place to call home.
As a 100% privately funded nonprofit, we simply couldn't do this work without our donors, volunteers, community partners, and friends. Your compassion doesn't just support our mission—it changes lives and helps build stronger communities across Arkansas.

It's Back-to-School Day!
For some of our Ranchers, it’s a time to reconnect with friends and teachers after a busy summer and to return to favorite classes, sports, and activities.
For others, it’s one more new thing in a series of new things—a new home, a new school, new friendships, new routines. While those changes can feel overwhelming, they also offer the opportunity for a fresh start.
At the Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, our houseparents and staff walk alongside the children as they navigate these new beginnings and fresh starts, teaching skills that will last a lifetime.
As an organization that is 100% privately funded, we could not do this without the support of our generous donors. Today, our Ranchers head back to school with new backpacks and new clothes and shoes that fit properly. More importantly, they come home from school every day knowing they are safe, loved, and supported by people who believe in their future.

🐄 Summer is moo-ving right along! In a little over a week, our Ranchers will be heading back to school for a new year of learning, growing, and making memories.
Thanks to generous supporters like you, they have more than just a place to stay—they have a safe, loving home where they can focus on school, participate in activities they enjoy, and simply experience the joys of being kids.
And when the school day is over, they return to the peace and beauty of the Ranch—a place to relax, recharge, and know they belong.
