🌽🍅💚 Farmers Market Rescues Return This Weekend

Food Rescue US-Akron is proud to return to Stow Community Farmers Market this Saturday 5/30 9-12:30pm, and Hudson Farmers Market on 6/6 9-12:30pm.

Thanks to the support of vendors, volunteers, and community partners, surplus produce and other market items will be rescued and redirected to local agencies serving neighbors in need.

These partnerships are a great example of how communities can work together to reduce food waste while increasing food access to fresh, nutritious food.

🌟🛻💚 Volunteer Spotlight: Celebrating Kathee's 500th Rescue!

This week, we are incredibly proud to celebrate Kathee for completing her 500th food rescue with Food Rescue US- Akron! 🎉🙌

Five hundred rescues means 500 times of showing up for our community since September 2024.

🍅 14,678 Pounds of Food

Kathee's dedication, reliability, and compassion have made a tremendous impact across our community, and we are so grateful for the time and heart she brings to the mission.

🏫🍎✏️ Rockin' School Rescues

As this school year comes to a close soon, a big thank you to Twinsburg City Schools for joining Food Rescue US-Akron in March 2026 and already making an incredible impact.

In just a short time, they have already donated 475 pounds of surplus food- helping ensure good food reaches local agencies like Our Community Hunger Center instead of ending up in the landfill.

That's 475 pounds of food redirected to help nourish neighbors while also reducing environmental waste.

We're grateful for partners like Twinsburg City Schools and food rescuers who are helping students and communities see the importance of sustainability, compassion, and action.

Thank you for being part of the food rescue movement! We look forward to the impact you make next school year!

🎉🎉 Food Rescue US- Akron Turns 2!

Two years ago, Food Rescue US-Akron began with a simple mission: keep good food out of landfills and get it to neighbors who need it most.

Since then, this incredible community has grown into a powerful network of volunteers, food donors, agency partners, and supporters all working together to make a real impact across Akron and the surrounding communities.

In just two years, together we have:
🍏 Rescued thousands of pounds of food
🚗 Completed countless deliveries
🤝 Built meaningful community partnerships
🌎 Reduced food waste while helping feed our neighbors

What started as an idea has become a movement powered by compassion, consistency, and community.

Thank you to every volunteer, donor, agency partner, and supporter who has helped us reach this milestone. We couldn't do this work without you- and we're just getting started. We have BIG plans for this next year. 💚

This week, we're proud to spotlight Good Neighbors- Cuyahoga Falls, one of the incredible organizations helping strengthen our community through compassion, connection, and support.

Through their partnership with Food Rescue US-Akron, rescued food is redirected to neighbors who can truly benefit from it- ensuring good food is shared, not wasted.

These recent rescues are about so much more than food.

Behind every photo is a chain of people working together- a donor setting aside food instead of throwing it away, a volunteer making time in their day to pick it up, and an agency preparing to share it with neighbors who need support.

What might have been wasted instead becomes:
🍅 Ingredients for meals
💚 Relief for families
🌎 Less waste in our landfills

Each rescue tells a story of community, connection, and care- and we're grateful for everyone who helps make these moments possible.

📖💕 Storytime

Food Rescue isn't just about delivering food, sometimes it means a little bit more. 💕

The other day, I reached out to one of our wonderful volunteers to see if I could help her with one of her rescues today. She regularly does multiple rescues on Wednesdays (our busiest day) which spans a 3 hour route across multiple communities. I appreciate all she does and wanted her to know that. 💕

This morning, I made the easy pickup and drove to the receiving agency with a carload of food. I reflected on how much this food would benefit neighbors and how much that impacted my perspective on my own day. 💕

Our contact at the agency was running behind due to an emergency, so I waited and caught up on emails to our partners. While waiting, a man, named Jeff, pulled up and asked if I needed help. He explained that he was in a recovery program and how doing positive things helped him not want to get a drink. We chatted and he shared how something so little as helping me unload would make his day better. 💕

After Cindy Bach from Common Threads arrived, we loaded everything inside. Cindy shared how the food delivered would immediately be distributed to 70-80 families tonight. We continued to discuss challenges and opportunities for each our organizations. Cindy is always able to provide encouragement and ideas, especially when I may have needed it most. She is an amazing partner and I am so happy to have connected with her. She is doing amazing work for the community. 💕

All these pieces strung together today for a reason. Being part of Food Rescue US-Akron means more than just transporting excess food. This feeling is what it is about. I hope you find that being part of our food rescue community impacts your day and makes it more meaningful. 💕
