UPDATE (4/3/25, 10:50 a.m.): The toddler victim’s injuries were serious but are non-life threatening. The 17-year-old sustained what was considered a minor lower leg injury.
Following the shooting, detectives and officers collected additional facts and evidence. Based on the additional information developed, and after legal consultation, investigators arrested the teen. While the circumstances surrounding the incident suggest the shooting was unintentional, the teen was charged with one count of Reckless Assault, and two counts of Negligent Assault in connection with the incident. He was later transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Facility following his arrest.
The names of the subjects involved are being withheld at this time (25-35578).

Today around 3 pm, officers were called to the 1500 block of Hyde Park Ave. for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found that a nearly 2-year-old male had been shot in the abdomen. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown and still under investigation. The child was transported to the hospital where he is undergoing surgery. His exact condition is unknown at this time. A 17-year-old male was detained by police. Moments later, another 17-year-old male was self-transported separately to the hospital by private vehicle with an injury to his leg that investigators believe may be related. This information is PRELIMINARY; no further information is available is this time. The incident remains under investigation.
