🌿 **Still smiling about Legacy Forum #2!**

Last night reminded me exactly why we created the **Legacy Forum Series**.

Legacy Forum #2 — *Emergency Preparedness: Preparing Today for Peace of Mind Tomorrow* — wasn’t just a presentation. It was a real conversation. People asked questions, shared experiences, responded to one another, and participated. You could genuinely feel that the conversation mattered.

And our Legacy Forum community is growing! We welcomed family, friends, familiar faces, community members, **and people I had never met before.** That meant so much.

This is what we hoped to create through **Compassion by Design**: a space where caregivers, older adults, families, and community members can come together, learn, ask real questions, share real experiences, and leave with information they can actually use.

A special thank you to **Sharron Williams, BSN, RN**, for sharing practical emergency preparedness guidance, and to **Ebony Travis-Tichenor, MBA, PHR**, for guiding such a thoughtful and engaging conversation.

And to everyone who joined us, participated, asked a question, shared a thought, or simply listened — **thank you. You helped make Legacy Forum #2 a success.**

We are proud of what we’re building through Compassion by Design and excited about where the Legacy Forum Series is going.

🌿 **We’re building something special, one conversation at a time.**

🚨 **If an emergency happened tomorrow, would your family be ready—especially the older adults you love?**

For seniors, aging parents and grandparents, an emergency can bring added challenges. Medications, mobility needs, medical equipment, transportation, important documents, and communication plans all require advance preparation.

But emergency preparedness is not something we do alone—it’s something we do **as a family and as a community**.

The Legacy Forum is happening **tomorrow**, and there are still spots available! Join us for:

**Preparing Today for Peace of Mind Tomorrow**

This important conversation will help caregivers, families, seniors, and community members think through the steps they can take now to be better prepared when the unexpected happens.

Caregiving has no age requirement. đź’™

An estimated 4 million children in the U.S. are caring for a sick, disabled, or aging family member—often taking on responsibilities that many adults would find overwhelming.

This important article shines a light on young caregivers whose stories too often go unseen.

At Compassion by Design, we believe caregivers of all ages deserve to be seen, supported, and reminded that they are not alone.

Take a moment to read and share their stories. đź’™

Our Caregiving in the U.S. 2025 report found that an estimated 4 million children in the U.S. are caring for a sick, disabled, or aging family member.

Drawing on that data, The New York Times is bringing national attention to their stories. Many are managing wound care, medications, feeding tubes, and medical equipment, responsibilities most adults would find overwhelming.

The feature follows several of these young caregivers up close: a teenager managing her mother's cancer treatment while keeping up with high school, siblings caring for their mother's dialysis and diabetes care, and a 14-year-old who has become his grandmother's primary support system.

These kids are missing school, falling behind academically, and carrying emotional weight most adults never have to face growing up. And in most states, there's no formal system to identify them, let alone support them.

Caregiving doesn't have an age requirement. It's time our policies reflect that reality.

Thank you to The New York Times and By Helen Ouyang on highlighting the stories of young caregivers. Read the full story to understand what these young caregivers are navigating every day, and why recognition and support for caregivers of all ages matters.

Every act of generosity helps build a stronger future for older adults and the caregivers who support them.

As we count down to National Senior Citizens Day on August 21, we're reminded that monthly giving provides the steady support nonprofits need to serve their communities year-round. Recurring gifts help organizations plan ahead, expand resources, and respond to the evolving needs of seniors and family caregivers.

By becoming a monthly supporter of Compassion by Design, you're investing in programs that educate caregivers, connect communities, and promote dignity, compassion, and healthy aging. Every gift—no matter the size—helps us create a future where older adults are valued and caregivers never have to walk the journey alone.

Join us in making a lasting difference, one month at a time. đź’™
