One Love’s mission is to end relationship abuse by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors and empowering them to be leaders driving change in their communities. The One Love Foundation was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Love, a senior lacrosse player at the University of Virginia who was three weeks shy of her graduation when she was killed by he

r ex- boyfriend. Yeardley lived her life with integrity, gratitude and honesty -- and lots of laughter. She saw the best in everyone, and was always there to give a helping hand. Her leadership on her lacrosse team and at school resonated with her friends and peers. All of the work we do at the One Love Foundation celebrates and honors the positive spirit and kindness that Yeardley personified. We are committed not only to honoring Yeardley’s memory, but also to saving others from suffering the same fate. Our work is rooted in our honest belief that relationship violence is an epidemic that can be stopped when young adults are educated and empowered to affect change in their communities.

Few things feel worse than being ignored by someone you care about.

The silent treatment can feel confusing and hurtful, especially when you don’t know whether someone needs space or is intentionally shutting you out.

So how can you deal with the silent treatment? Whether you are the person receiving or giving the silent treatment, there are actions you can take to start a conversation that opens the door for healthier communication.

Healthy relationships aren’t about never having conflict. They’re about working through it with honesty, kindness, and respect.

Today is May 3. The 16th anniversary of Yeardley's death.

Yeardley Love was 22 years old when she was killed by her ex-boyfriend — just weeks before she was set to graduate from the University of Virginia.

Her mother, Sharon Love, refused to let that be the end of the story. She founded One Love Foundation so that Yeardley's name would be attached to prevention — to the young people who would learn the warning signs, recognize an unhealthy relationship, and choose a different path.

We will reach more than 300,000 young people with this work this year alone. Every one of them now has tools Yeardley never had. In her memory, we educate. In her memory, we intervene early. In her memory, we protect the futures she never got to see.

Give today in honor of Yeardley to help us reach more young people with life-saving prevention education and prevent abuse before it begins.

May 3rd is 1 week away. Here's why it matters 👉

Next week will mark 16 years since losing Yeardley.

For her family, friends, teammates, and all of us at One Love, that date never passes without heartfelt reflection. It is the day we remember Yards—the beloved daughter, sister, teammate, and friend whose life was cut short by someone who should have protected her. It is also the day that became the reason One Love exists.

It takes a village to change social norms and we are grateful you are part of ours. 💙

The most dangerous time in an abusive relationship is during a breakup and after you have left your partner. During this period, you partner may escalate their aggression to keep you from leaving. These are just a few precautionary steps you can take to keep yourself safe. Visit our Resource Library at joinonelove.org/lms/resources to download the full Breakup Planning Guide for free!

Remember, asking for help to leave a relationship that no longer makes you happy or threatens your safety is a sign of strength, and there is no weakness in leaning on the people and resources around you. 💙

No one deserves to have their boundaries disrespected.

Conversations about healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors aren’t always easy—but they’re necessary. When we recognize the signs, trust our instincts, and support one another, we can help create safer communities for everyone. 💙
