Hooray, huzzah, yeehaw! IT’S OUR 44th ANNIVERSARY!!! Thanks to committed volunteers who, in 1982, acted on their belief that nobody should go hungry, Paul’s Place has been a mainstay for Pigtown and its surrounding SW Baltimore neighborhoods for more than four decades.
The kudos really goes to our guests who have the courage to ask for help when at their most vulnerable, when others sometimes make it seem that they don’t deserve understanding and respect, let alone the essentials we all need day to day. We are humbled and touched by their resilience, positivity, and humor that remind us why our work is so important.
Paul’s Place wouldn’t be here if community members didn’t want to come here, if we weren’t doing our best for them. Our dedicated staff and volunteers create a welcoming environment free from judgment where guests feel comfortable talking about their challenges and trusting us to be honest while working together toward the best outcome. We have persevered for more than four decades because they need us to be here.
Of course, we also wouldn’t have come this far without our own community of supporters who give their time as volunteers, donate needed items, make financial contributions, and, most importantly, believe in the value of what we do. You are appreciated more than ever as we continue to feel the fallout from restrictions to vital benefit programs and resources enacted last year that are still impacting our neighbors and, in turn, Paul’s Place. Though we are concerned about what is yet to come, our commitment to improving lives in SW Baltimore remains strong.
