We are incredibly grateful to TAI, Inc. for hosting their annual Fall Festival for the families at Hannah More Family Shelter. The TAI team treated parents and children to an afternoon of fun, featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, football, Velcro ball, and more. A huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers who made this event a success!

After a long day at school, most kids go home to a familiar routine—a snack, homework, and a chance to unwind and play.
 
But for children experiencing homelessness, the end of the school day means returning to the stress and instability of not having a home.
 
At SVDP, we want every child in our shelters to feel safe, cared for, and supported—to have moments where they can simply enjoy being a kid.
 
An after-school snack can be one of those moments.
It gives them something to look forward to when they return from school. It’s one small way we can help preserve childhood in the face of homelessness.
 
Right now, we have over 200 children in our family shelters and urgently need after-school snacks for them.

Giving is easy! There are 3 ways you can help:

2️⃣ Purchase snacks and deliver them to one of our family shelters. Donations can be dropped off 7 days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3️⃣ Can’t shop but still want to support? Donate to our After-School Snacks Fund (link in bio), which directly supports the children and gives them the boost they need after a long school day.

Last winter, SVDP provided a combined total of just over 4,000 freezing weather bed nights to the most vulnerable in our community. As the cold intensified, our shelters exceeded normal capacity, opening every available space to ensure no one was left outside in the dangerous cold.

Our staff worked tirelessly this winter to meet rising demands, and that same level of dedication is critical now as we face a severe and dangerous heat wave. Extreme heat can be life-threatening for individuals experiencing homelessness, older adults, and those with chronic health conditions, making these days especially critical.

During Baltimore City's Code Red extreme heat days, SVDP's Beans & Bread Day Resource Center expands its efforts to support neighbors in need by distributing bottled water and hydration drinks and providing a safe place to rest from the heat. This is in addition to the meals and connections to resources already provided to over 125 people daily.

Here are ways you can help:

💰Monetary donations allow us to respond quickly to urgent needs and ensure we can continue expanding support during extreme weather events (link in comments).

💧Or, essential items can be delivered directly to Beans and Bread at 400 South Bond Street, Baltimore MD 21231. Donations can be dropped off Mon-Fri, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We are looking for bottled water, sports drinks, snacks, sunscreen, cooling items (handheld fans, cooling towels and hats) and hygiene supplies.

Our mission is to ensure those impacted by poverty have the skills, resources and opportunity to achieve their full potential.

The Baltimore City Department of Social Services will be ON-SITE at Beans & Bread on Wednesday, May 20th from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM to assist community members with applying for mainstream benefits and supportive services.

This Wednesday, St. Vincent de Paul's Early Head Start and Head Start programs hosted two educational baby showers for Head Start moms of infants and moms to be Besides the games and treats, there were partner organizations that provide assistance to moms and infants in attendance. They shared resources, offered assistance and distributed gifts to each mom. Here are a few snaps from all the fun!

On April 24, 1581, St. Vincent de Paul was born.

His belief that every person deserves dignity and compassion transformed how the world responds to poverty and continues to guide our work today.

More than four centuries later, Vincentians carry forward that mission, serving neighbors in need through acts of charity, justice, and love.
