On April 24, 1581, St. Vincent de Paul was born.

His belief that every person deserves dignity and compassion transformed how the world responds to poverty and continues to guide our work today.

More than four centuries later, Vincentians carry forward that mission, serving neighbors in need through acts of charity, justice, and love.

💙 Inspired by his example, we continue to serve.

📣 Empty Bowls is this weekend!

And thanks to the many incredible individuals, groups, and companies who painted our one-of-a-kind ceramic bowls, guests at both Empty Bowls events will have over 1,000 stunning bowls to choose from. 🥣

Empty Bowls is a two-night celebration of food, fun and giving back. Both evenings feature a delicious selection of soups and other foods from local restaurants, engaging entertainment, and a keepsake bowl.

Most importantly, this event serves as our largest fundraiser, enabling us to provide vital support to those suffering from hunger, homelessness, and poverty.

Join us this Friday, April 17 for the Candlelight and Clay, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM for an intimate, cozy gathering, featuring a variety of foods, complimentary drinks, games and entertainment, dueling pianos, a silent auction, and over 1,000 handcrafted ceramic bowls to choose from.

The Empty Bowls Family Festival is this Saturday, April 18 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Bring family and friends to this traditional event with a wide selection of delicious soups and other food from local restaurants, a cash bar, games and entertainment for all ages, music, an artisanal marketplace, and a variety of handcrafted ceramic bowls. And children 9 and under are free!

As we welcome a new year, we’re celebrating new beginnings for the families we serve through our New Year, New Home donation drive. For many families, stability begins at our shelter. They often arrive with very few belongings and an immediate need for everyday essentials. These simple things provide comfort and a sense of safety during an incredibly difficult transition.

After months of rebuilding their lives, families reach an exciting milestone: moving into permanent housing. While this is a powerful step forward, security deposits, utility fees, and other moving expenses often leave little room in the budget for essential household items. A new place can feel overwhelming without the basics that truly make it feel like home.

We need essential items including twin and queen sheets, pillows, bath and dish towels, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, cleaning supplies, silverware, dishes, and cookware (all items must be new).

📍 Donations can be shipped or dropped off 7 days a week at:

Sarah's Hope Family Shelter
1114 N Mount Street, Baltimore, MD 21217

SVDP Eastside Shelter
9150 Franklin Square Dr, Rosedale, MD 21237

Hannah More Family Shelter
12041 Reisterstown Rd, Reisterstown, MD 21136

If you’re unable to shop but would still like to support the effort, you can donate to the New Year, New Home Fund, which directly assists families moving in and out of our shelters 💙: https://fundraise.givesmart.com/form/sxObcA?vid=1p1cv0

“Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn't be that women are the exception.” — Ruth Bader Ginsburg

This Women’s History Month, we honor the strength, leadership, and unwavering compassion of women — past and present — who have shaped the work of service and social justice.

Long before us, courageous women helped lay the foundation for fighting hunger, homelessness, and poverty — advocating for dignity, equity, and opportunity in our communities. Today, at St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, the torch is carried forward by the dedicated women who lead, serve, and shape decisions that impact those we serve every day.

We celebrate the legacy they’ve inherited and the future they continue to build — turning compassion into action and hope into lasting change. 💙
