🍂 Holiday Closure Notice | Indigenous Peoples’ Day

LifeWorks Community Action will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2026, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Today, we honor and recognize the history, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples and communities.

We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13.

Today, we’re kicking off Give Thanks. Pass It On. — a community-wide challenge to turn gratitude into action.

☀️ Summer was a busy one for LifeWorks WIC!

This summer, our WIC team continued to connect local families with nutritious foods, helpful resources and the support they need to thrive.

🥕 600 Farmers Market Coupon Booklets were distributed, each valued at $25, giving participants the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs from local farmers.

💙 We also continued to exceed our target caseload of 1,885 participants, reaching as many as 1,960 participants — nearly 2,000 people — in July alone!

These numbers represent more than a busy summer. They represent families accessing healthy food, local farmers receiving support, and our WIC team making a difference throughout our community.

The Impact of WIC Peer Support

We recently received this heartfelt feedback from a LifeWorks WIC client, and it beautifully captures why peer support matters:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much. I can’t express to you how grateful I am to have this kind of support this time around. It’s a huge relief. Makes me sad because I wish I had this for my first so I honestly was holding back tears. I wish I could have advocated for myself and my son better but I’m happy he’s healthy and we have turned a corner and I was strong enough to do so. It was so nice to ‘meet’ you and I’m so happy to be working with you 😊”

Kudos to Kayleigh, one of our wonderful WIC Peer Counselors, for making such a meaningful difference for this mom and her family. 💛

Our Peer Counselors offer encouragement, understanding and one-on-one support from someone who knows firsthand how important it is to have someone in your corner. Sometimes that support can make all the difference.

📚 Celebrating a Season of Learning at the Saratoga Race Course!

As another track season comes to a close, we’re celebrating the dedication of our ESOL students who spent their summer strengthening their English-language skills while working and living in the Saratoga community.

Throughout the racing season, LifeWorks Community Action offered ESOL classes at the track, creating an accessible place for immigrant learners to build their language skills, confidence and connections.

We marked our final class of the season with a special meal, desserts and activities that gave everyone a chance to celebrate all they accomplished this summer.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteer Kayleah, whose dedication and encouragement have supported our students this season and for many seasons before it. We are also incredibly grateful to our ESOL Coordinator, AnnMarie Baumel, for making these classes possible and creating such a welcoming environment for our learners.

This program is made possible with support from the New York State Office for New Americans. We are grateful for their investment in programs that help New Americans learn, connect and thrive in their communities.

Congratulations to all of our students on a wonderful season of learning! 💙
