The Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA is proud to endorse Anthony Morelli for Supervisor !

Anthony has taken the time to meet with our membership, listen to our concerns, and learn about the work we do. He has also completed two ride-alongs with our members to experience firsthand what a day in the life of a Sheriff’s Deputy looks like. That effort shows a willingness to listen and an interest in understanding the challenges of keeping our community safe.

A retired U.S. Navy veteran with 21 years of service, an experienced participant in town government, and a respected attorney, Anthony brings a strong record of public service. He has committed to making public safety a priority and has shared a solid vision for Clifton Park’s future.

Our endorsement reflects the conversations we’ve had with Anthony, the effort he’s made to understand our profession, and his commitment to the community we serve. We believe he will bring that same dedication to the role of Town Supervisor.

Please join us in supporting Anthony Morelli for Clifton Park Town Supervisor!

In 1996, I lost my mother, Susan C. Newlove, to breast cancer.

30 years later, that loss is still a reminder of how deeply breast cancer affects not only the person fighting it, but the entire family standing beside them.

This year, Quantity Kings is doing something that means a lot to me personally. 🎀

We created a limited-edition Breast Cancer Awareness Shirt, and 100% of the profits from this campaign will be donated to The Pink Fund, helping support breast cancer patients and their families during treatment.

This isn’t about selling a shirt.

It’s about remembering those we’ve lost, supporting those fighting today, standing with survivors, and using our platform to make a difference.

The Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA strongly disagrees with the idea that low county spending and a lean workforce should be celebrated without considering the real-world impact on the employees and residents who rely on county services.

A county cannot claim success simply because it spends less per resident or employs fewer people than other counties. Those figures mean little if the result is a revolving door of hiring, training, and losing qualified Deputy Sheriffs to agencies that offer better pay, benefits, and working conditions.

At the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, staffing is a serious concern. We currently have nine open Deputy Sheriff positions and only six possible candidates available to fill them. That is not a sustainable staffing model. It means remaining Deputies are asked to carry heavier workloads, work more overtime, and operate under continued pressure while the county struggles to recruit experienced lateral transfers because our compensation and benefits do not compete with neighboring agencies.

The county’s low payroll may look favorable on a chart, but it comes at a price:
• Taxpayer-funded training is repeatedly invested in new Deputies who leave for higher-paying jobs elsewhere.
• Experienced law-enforcement professionals are difficult to recruit and even harder to retain.
• Staffing shortages increase the burden on the Deputies who remain.
• Morale suffers when employees see their work and sacrifice undervalued.
• Public safety and service quality are put at risk when staffing levels cannot keep pace with the county’s needs.

The problems are not confined to road patrol. The county jail is in serious condition, and employees throughout county government are feeling the same effects: they are overworked, underpaid, and increasingly asked to do more with fewer resources. Other county unions have raised similar concerns because this is a countywide retention and workforce problem—not an isolated complaint.

Fiscal responsibility matters. The PBA supports responsible spending and respect for taxpayers. But fiscal responsibility does not mean keeping wages and benefits so far below the market that Saratoga County becomes a training ground for other agencies. A lower tax rate is not a victory if it is achieved by underinvesting in the people responsible for public safety, corrections, emergency response, infrastructure, and essential county services.
Saratoga County is growing. Its workforce, compensation structure, and investment in public safety must grow with it.

The county should aim not merely to be the cheapest employer, but to be a competitive employer capable of hiring, retaining, and supporting the professionals residents depend on every day.

Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001—and to honor the courage, sacrifice, and selflessness shown by the first responders who ran toward danger to protect others.

The members of the Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff’s PBA stand with the families, survivors, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day. We will never forget the law-enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, military members, and everyday Americans whose bravery continues to inspire our nation.

May we always carry forward the unity, resilience, and commitment to service that emerged from that tragic day.

Never Forget.

NEWS RELEASE
The Passing of Schenectady Police Detective Timothy Higgins

During the overnight hours of July 27, 2026, Detective Timothy Higgins passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City following a prolonged battle with cancer.

Detective Higgins joined the Schenectady Police Department in 2010 and dedicated his professional life to serving the residents of the City of Schenectady. He most recently served as a Detective in the Youth Aid Bureau and previously served in the Criminal Investigations Unit. Before that, he worked as a general patrol officer and a community police officer assigned to both the Woodlawn and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods.

“Detective Higgins devoted nearly sixteen years of his life to protecting and serving the people of Schenectady. Tim was a dedicated police officer, a trusted colleague, and a true friend to so many throughout our department and community. His compassion, strength, sense of humor, and commitment to helping others were evident throughout his career. Tim’s loss is immeasurable, and our entire department stands with his family during this incredibly difficult time. We will forever be grateful for his service, his friendship, and the lasting impact he made on the Schenectady Police Department and the city he proudly served,” said Schenectady Police Chief Brian Whipple.

Tim’s passing at just 39 years old is a heartbreaking reminder of how precious life is. In recent days, the Higgins family has received an extraordinary outpouring of support from the community, the Schenectady Police Department, and fellow first responders throughout the region. This support reflects the profound impact Tim made on those who had the privilege of knowing him during his sixteen years of service.

A public GoFundMe page was set up by the Schenectady Police Department PBA on behalf of Detective Higgins’ family to help support his wife and three young children through this difficult time and in the coming months and years ahead. Anyone wishing to donate can visit: https://gofund.me/1a3aa5f15
Private funeral and burial services are still being planned. There is no further information at this time.
