There are two things nonprofits almost always ask a business for. Brian Mavis thinks both are the wrong ask.
“99% of the time, they are asked either for money, or to close up for a day and go volunteer at your thing.”
Government is engaged. Churches are engaged. Nonprofits keep getting better. But business — an entire sector — has largely stayed unaware, partly because we keep approaching them as a checkbook or a labor pool.
So he asked a different question: “What if their vocation were part of the solution?”
Sell food? Fix cars? Run a trampoline park? Manage a zoo? Then that’s what you bring. Not a donation — the actual work you already know how to do.
That’s the conviction behind the Foster Friendly app: businesses serving foster families out of what they already are.
