If you've ever been to the OLC, you know that the cabin is the centerpiece of the whole place. Over the past two decades that it's been here, the logs had begun to show their age. We recently had Woodward Woodcare out to do the important work of preserving the cabin for generations to come. They cleaned the logs, repaired several spots, and stained and sealed them to protect the cabin for future Avon students to enjoy. Check out some pictures of the process! A huge thank you goes out to Sam, Matt, and Josh for their amazing work.

Hi everyone! We'll be holding 3 W**d Wrangles this fall at the OLC. W**d Wrangles are nation-wide volunteer events aimed at educating people about the harms of invasive species and removing them from nature. It's Paw Paw season! Paw Paws (Asimona triloba) are a great native tree that produces the largest edible fruit native to North America. These fruits have a custard-like texture, large seeds, and a flavor similar to a banana mixed with a pineapple. Have you ever eaten Paw Paws?

We've had dozens of Eagle Scout projects at the OLC over the years. Recently, Wilhelm Blaauw of troop 306 completed his project. He constructed a shelter for our butterfly house so that it can be protected from the elements and easily accessible for students. Wilhelm built the structure with help from family and friends, and it's been a fantastic addition to the OLC. Thanks so much, Wilhelm!

It's Buckeye season! We were out this morning collecting buckeyes from some Ohio Buckeye trees in the OLC. Have you ever seen or collected buckeyes? What do you like to do with them?
