This is a picture postcard of the Presbyterian Church in Garrett, Indiana. It is a corner view of the church from across the street. There are leafless trees surrounding the church. Printed in white on the bottom of the postcard is: "Presbyterian Church. Garrett, Ind."

Handwritten on the back of the postcard is: "Garrett June 21 Dear Sonny, this is about all of the important bldgs in this large city Write Often Love, Dad & Mom". It is addressed to: " #35341764 Cpl. Robert Conkle 317th Depot Repair Sg 12 A.D.G. A.P.O 922 % p.m. San Francisco. Calif." It is postmarked: "Wheel & OH TR45 JUN 21 1944 R.P.O."

This is a picture of DeKalb County's namesake and Revolutionary War hero.

"Better known as Baron DeKalb, he, was born in Germany of a peasant family on June 20, 1721. He became a military man who fought in scores of fierce battles, the last on the Camden,South Carolina, America. His aim in life was fighting for the rights of man, for which he died, August 19, 1780 at age 59, while aiding our colonies in their fight for freedom. The right of all mankind. Time has eroded the memory of his achievements but the name DeKalb survives. 150 years after the naming of our county in 1837, an enduring marker, an eternal monument."
