Summer can be one of the hardest times of year for families facing food insecurity.
A question we hear often is: “Aren’t there already free summer food programs for kids?”
The answer is yes, and those programs are critical. But at a recent DeKalb County Hunger Relief Alliance meeting, we talked about something important: access is still a major challenge for many families.
Parents are working. Transportation can be difficult. Many families do not feel comfortable sending younger children out alone during the day to access meals. And even when food is available, snacks and simple kid-friendly items are often the hardest things for local pantries to keep stocked.
And in order to serve families best this season, we've launched the Summer Snack Campaign.
Through June 7, you can help by donating:
🧃 Snacks
🧀 Mac & cheese cups or easy meals
🥨 Grab-and-go items
🍎 Kid-friendly pantry foods
Donations can be made at:
📍 Miller’s in Garrett
📍 Albright’s in Corunna
📦 Or through our Amazon Snack List: https://a.co/04O42jRP
Many food pantries receive food from a variety of sources, but they do not always get to choose the foods families need most during the summer months. These simple items make a real difference for children home during long summer days. 💚
Thank you for helping care for local families this summer. 🎊
