What actually makes a farm sustainable? In our upcoming webinar with Global, we will be unpacking some of the realities behind that question, including:

- What ""Business as Mission"" means and why it matters for Project Canaan
- An honest assessment of the Project Canaan farm
- What the outgrower model is and why it could be a game-changer
- What it would look like for Project Canaan to become a hub for the surrounding community

We look forward to sharing and discussing a practical look at what it takes to build something that will last and help us reach our goal of operational self-sustainability.

We’re excited to welcome a new member to the Heart for Africa team! 🇺🇸

Please join us in welcoming Ellen Scheid, who has joined our U.S. office as a Bookkeeper, working alongside our CFO, John McCarthy.

Ellen brings both professional expertise and a heart for family and community. Originally from Southern Louisiana and now living in Tennessee, she’s a proud graduate of Nicholls State University. At home, life is full and joyful with her husband, their 7-year-old son, and a lively crew of 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a guinea pig, plus a growing mini farm on their acreage!

When she’s not keeping our finances in order, Ellen enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, music, and spending time outdoors with her family. She also loves cooking, gardening, and reading during her quiet moments.

We’re so grateful to have Ellen as part of the Heart for Africa family! Welcome, Ellen! 💚

Happy Mother’s Day 🩵

Today, we celebrate the beautiful, powerful impact of a mother.

At Project Canaan, that love is lived out every single day by over 100 women, our Aunties, who are raising more than 460 children with unwavering care and devotion.

We also honor a woman known as Make, “mother” in siSwati. Janine Maxwell is mom to every child at Project Canaan. She knows their names, their stories, and the journeys that brought them here. Her love has created a place where every child is chosen, known, and deeply loved.

And today, we celebrate mothers across the United States and around the world whose hearts are connected to these children.

Though miles apart, this love is shared.

Because of it, children are growing up known, nurtured, and deeply loved.

Happy Mother’s Day. 🌍💛

They call her Make, “mother” in siSwati. 🩵

Janine Willis Maxwell is the legal guardian of every child at Project Canaan. But more than that, she is a mother in every sense of the word.

She knows each child’s name. Their story. How they came to be here.

She celebrates their victories and carries their burdens.

Her heart for these children is deeply personal. She understands what it means to be chosen, to be loved, to belong.

Because of Make, and the incredible women who serve alongside her, over 460 children are being raised in a place where they are fully known and deeply loved.

This Mother’s Day, we honor a mother whose love has changed hundreds of lives.

Thank you, Make. You. Are. Loved.

School break at Project Canaan means full days, happy hearts, and lots of fun! ☀️

Our amazing Activities team filled the days with meaningful moments for every child, from movie nights for our younger grades 🎬 to an exciting on-campus triathlon for our older kids 🏃‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️

Children ages 10–13 gave it their all running across the farm, biking designated routes, and swimming in our campus pool. It was a fun-filled, high-energy day that celebrated strength, determination, and teamwork!

The kids are also getting hands-on experience for daily life through CHORES! Collecting eggs from our Egg Barns, pulling weeds, and helping with cleaning projects. These moments help raise responsible kids.

We also wrapped up the season with a swimming gala for all ages 🏊‍♂️ complete with medals, treats, and plenty of cheering!

Enjoy these photos of all the FUN! Big thanks to our Activites Team. You've got your hands full!

During this school break, our Emseni children are taking part in something deeply meaningful. They are spending time at the traditional Swazi homestead (Ekhaya) built on Project Canaan 🏡🌿

Each child will have the opportunity to stay overnight, stepping into the rhythms of traditional Swazi life 🇸🇿

Through storytelling, cultural values, and everyday moments, they’re gaining more than an experience, they’re building a stronger sense of identity, belonging, and connection to their heritage.

These are the moments that will impact and shape who they become. ❤️

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the beautiful connection between those who care for these children every day… and those who help make that care possible.

A mother’s love isn’t limited by where she lives.

At Project Canaan, children are surrounded by “mothers” who cook, clean, teach, guide, and love them as their own.

And across the world, there are women (mothers, grandmothers, and friends) whose hearts are deeply connected to these children.

Different places. Same love.

Because of this shared love, every child is known. Every child belongs. 💛

We are looking forward to welcoming Kevin Stark to our upcoming webinar on sustainable agriculture! When Kevin visited Project Canaan, he saw our farm firsthand.

Kevin serves as Board President of AgGrandize Global and brings more than 30 years of experience in agricultural strategy, along with hands-on involvement in a 9,000-acre farming operation.

His perspective combines both large-scale operational experience and a deep understanding of what it takes to build viable agricultural systems over time.

In this conversation, Kevin will share insight into why many farming models struggle, his assessment of the Project Canaan farm, and what separates farms that succeed from those that do not.

Join us on May 21 to hear directly from him.

What does the impact of a mother look like?

At Project Canaan, it looks like over **100 women (lovingly known as Aunties)** who show up every single day to help raise more than 420 children.

It’s early mornings in the kitchen…
Laundry lines stretching across the yard…
Little hands being held, stories being read, tears being wiped.

It’s in every meal prepared, every uniform washed, every child tucked in at night.

These Aunties are more than caregivers, they are mothers in the truest sense. They pour out love, guidance, patience, and strength in a thousand small moments that shape a child’s life forever.

Because of them, every child is seen.
Every child is nurtured.
Every child belongs.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the incredible impact of a mother, and the 100+ women who live it out daily. 💛
