Carroll County Humane Society

Carroll County Humane Society The Carroll County Humane Society, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Georgia, was founded

1) We established and operate a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, the West Georgia Spay/Neuter Clinic, as a way of combatting pet overpopulation and the resulting high euthanasia statistics in our area of the state.

2) For people who are unable to afford the reduced prices at the Clinic, such as the unemployed, working poor, and those on state or federal financial aid programs, we write grants and ra

ise funds so that we can subsidize the surgeries of their pets.

3) We run a pet food bank called the Empty Pet Bowl project and offer the food free to pet owners who might not have the funds at times to buy their own pet food.

4) We supervise a volunteer program at the county shelter which provides extra exercise, care, and socializing for the animals in the adoption area.

5) We transport shelter animals to adoption venues, such as pet stores and community events, to give the animals more visibility.

6) We photograph and post photos of shelter animals on various pet adoption websites (Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet, Dogtime, Pet Harbor, etc.).

7) We run a foster program, which rescues animals from the shelter and the public, makes sure they are vetted, and finds them homes.

8) We provide a subscription for all 1st and 3rd grade students in the city and county schools to KIND News, a bi-monthly children's magazine published by the Humane Society of the United States, which encourages respect for animals, the environment, and other people.

9) We donate books and DVDs on animal topics to the local library to further educate the public.

10) We provide counseling and training to pet owners through our Partners for Humane Education and Healthy Pets (PHEHP) program.

11) We have a K-9 Hurt No More program, which provides free no-pull dog harnesses in exchange for choke, prong, and shock collars, in partnership with Laura Clawson of Unleash the Pawsitive (a local dog training establishment) and Victoria Stillwell of Animal Planet.

12) We speak to community groups as a way of publicizing county animal welfare issues.

13) We partner with the CampusCats organization at the University of West Georgia to help provide a humane solution to the feral and abandoned cat problem on campus.

14) We provide information and referrals for the community through our CCHS voicemail and email accounts.

15) We hold an annual Fun Dog Show for families and their pets, and we participate in community festivals, such as Mayfest and the Villa Rica Gold Rush Days.

16) We use CCHS funds to reduce the adoption fees for shelter dogs and cats during special events, such as adopt-a-shelter-cat month or adopt-a-shelter-dog month, in an effort to help the animals find homes faster.

These sweet pups had a wonderful time at yesterdayโ€™s Adoption Event and even caught the eye of potential adopters. For a moment, it looked like they might be heading home โ€ฆ but when the day ended, they made the trip back to the shelter instead.

The good news? They were absolute stars! Each one loved meeting new people, and showed just what wonderful companions they can be. We know that their perfect match is still out there๐Ÿ’—

We reopen Monday 12:30-4:30 PM, so come meet these amazing dogs in person. One visit could change a life, maybe even yours. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ
