This weekend, the Georgia Council for Recovery was proud to join thousands of Georgians at the Atlanta Pride Festival! 🌈

Throughout the weekend, we met people from all walks of life and all stages of recovery, including individuals celebrating anywhere from one week to 46 years of continuous recovery! We also connected with community partners, healthcare professionals, peer supporters, and recovery advocates from across Georgia and beyond.

Our team shared information about CARES, RCOs, peer recovery support services, overdose prevention, and other resources available throughout Georgia. We also distributed more than 400 units of naloxone, helping equip community members with a lifesaving overdose reversal medication.

Atlanta Pride is a wonderful opportunity to meet people where they are, celebrate community, and have meaningful conversations about recovery. We're grateful to be part of an event that brings so many people together.

A big thank you to Black Bear Lodge, A Better Way Recovery, LLC, Mount Sinai Wellness Center, and Angel House of GA for sponsoring our participation, as well as the individual donors whose generosity helped make this weekend possible.

A special thank you to Mrs. Vanessa Johnson of Fayetteville for donating our team's Pride shirts! We loved wearing them as we celebrated recovery and community together.

And to everyone who stopped by, shared their story, or spent time with our team, thank you! We enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new ones throughout the weekend. πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

✨ Faith, Recovery & Education in Action! ✨

What happens when the faith community and recovery community come together? Powerful conversations, meaningful connections, and education that can help save lives. πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

We were honored to come together with the Georgia Faith & Recovery Collaboration and the North Atlanta Church of Christ for an important conversation around Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). From education and awareness to lived experience and open dialogue, this training was a powerful reminder that knowledge is a key part of breaking stigma and expanding pathways to recovery.

The Georgia Council for Recovery (GC4R) was honored to partner with the Georgia Faith & Recovery Collaboration, including Jasmine Turner and Seth Harris, to provide a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Education training at the North Atlanta Church of Christ.

The training featured two members of GC4R’s MAR Peer Advisory Board, Roger Partain and T.J. Jefferson, who served as presenters alongside our host and GC4R’s own AUD Peer Recovery Coach, Jennifer Thompson.

We are grateful for the opportunity to bring education, awareness, and meaningful conversation about MAT to the faith community. The level of engagement and participation from the audience demonstrated the importance of continuing to have open, informed conversations about evidence-based treatment and the multiple pathways of recovery.

A special thank-you to everyone who helped make this training a success. MAT saves lives, and education helps reduce stigma, increase understanding, and connect individuals and families with life-saving resources.

Great job to everyone involved and thank you to the North Atlanta Church of Christ for welcoming us!!

This week, the RCO Team joined Richard Oteri from this year’s Georgia Recovers Bus Tour to distribute naloxone at three music venues across metro Atlanta.

A huge THANK YOU The Hunt House in Marietta, Moon Shadow Tavern in Tucker, and Avon Theater in Avondale Estates for supporting overdose prevention and helping us get this life-saving resource into the hands of more people.

❀️ Naloxone saves lives. Keeping naloxone on hand means being prepared to respond when someone experiences an opioid overdose. You never know when having it nearby could give someone another chance.

And a special shoutout to Richard for leading the way and helping us bring naloxone to these venues. We’re grateful for your partnership and for helping expand access to this life-saving resource in our communities!

CARES 86 in full effect! πŸ’™

We are more than a workforce, we are a movement rooted in lived experience, resilience, hope, and the belief that recovery is possible for everyone.

Together, we are changing the way recovery is understood, supported, and experienced, one person, one story, and one community at a time.

Our experiences are our strength. Our voices matter. Our work creates hope. πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’™ Georgia Recovers in the Workplace!

Please join Tuesday, October 6, from 1–2 PM for the NDEAM 2026 Webinar Series: β€œGROWing Recovery in the Workplace: Georgia’s Statewide Initiative.”

We’re grateful to Advancing Employment, an initiative of the Center on Human Development & Disability / UGA within the David Ralston Institute for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences, for inviting us to be part of this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month programming and creating space for conversations about inclusive employment across Georgia.

GC4R Employment Specialist Reginald β€œReggie” McGruder will share about the Georgia Recovery-Ready Workplace (GROW) Initiative and our work to expand meaningful employment opportunities for people in recovery while helping employers create recovery-friendly workplaces.

GROW connects large employers with local Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) to create recovery-friendly workplaces that can be better equipped to support individuals and their families within both their communities and places of work.

πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’™ One final proclamation. One more community standing up for recovery.

On the final day of the 2026 Georgia Recovers in Communities Bus Tour, we made our last proclamation stop on a beautiful fall morning at Drake Field in Peachtree City.

A huge thank you to our host, The Lighthouse RCO, for bringing the recovery community together and continuing to create a place where people and families know they belong.

Thank you to Peachtree City Council Member Michael Polacek for reading the proclamation on behalf of Mayor Kim Learnard and the Peachtree City, GA - City Government, officially recognizing September as Recovery Month.

We were also grateful to Representative-elect Tamoria McQueen-Saba for joining us and sharing words of support and encouragement for the recovery community.

Carolyn McDermott shared an incredibly powerful and deeply personal message about losing her two sons, Gannon and Max, to fentanyl overdoses. She has turned unimaginable loss into advocacy, using their stories to educate others about fentanyl, substance use, and the importance of prevention. Thank you, Carolyn, for having the courage to continue sharing their stories and reminding all of us why this work matters.

And a special thank you to Will Calhoun, Community Risk Reduction Coordinator with Peachtree City Fire Rescue. His words came straight from the heart β€” reminding people that they are not alone, that their lives are worth saving, and that there are people in this community ready to stand beside them.

Thank you to all of Peachtree City’s first responders, city officials and leadership, family members, allies, and especially the people in recovery who showed up and stood together.

After a month of proclamations across this state, there was something special about receiving our final one surrounded by another community willing to publicly say: recovery matters, people matter, and no one has to walk this road alone.

Georgia recovers in communities. πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ’™
