India is home to 2,272 people groups (Total Population 1,435,244,000). 2,041 Unreached People Groups (Population: 1,368,197,000), 1,707 Frontier People Groups (Population: 1,051,877,000)
India has the largest number of UPGs both in population AND in individual people. Although there is some evangelical presence in this country, the political climate and the number of people groups make the spread of Christianity extremely difficult. Of the top 20 largest people groups in this country, 16 groups are considered frontier unreached people groups, meaning they have less than 0.01% Christian Evangelical presence. To reach the top 20 most populous people groups, Joshua Project estimates 10,277 missionaries are needed.
Pray for the missionaries serving in India, pray for their health and safety. Pray for the Indian Christians to find courage and safe ways to share the gospel within their own people group or people groups nearby. Pray for the millions of Indian people who study abroad in reached countries, pray they may hear Jesus' name and be saved, and bring the Gospel home to open ears.
