ers from all walks of life. We have banded together with our time AND talents to primarily support an underserved demographic within the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) community– the students who have aged out of foster care. We deliver dorm room makeover experiences, hope, and resources primarily to freshmen who make this life-changing transition without familial, financial, and emotional support. Plus, we have scholars who have experienced homelessness or who need more financial support completing their education. WHY WE DO IT

70% of kids in foster care dream of going to college. But circumstances knock that dream down and just 3% of these dreamers go on to earn their degree. Therefore, those who enroll in college are already beating the odds. However, HBCUs often don’t have the resources to adequately address the needs of these trailblazers. Our mission is to disrupt the "Foster care to Prison" pipeline and replace it with the "Foster care to HBCU GRADUATE pipeline.”

HOW CAN YOU HELP? Join The Mafia and share your time, talent, or treasure. We need volunteers, mentors, donors, and sponsors as we expand to HBCUs across the country.

I got a text from one of our Clark Atlanta babies this week who was excited about a bunch of new "firsts."

He wrote...
"First time on a 10+ hour road trip. First time going down the whole coast of Florida. First time in Florida. On a cruise. In the Bahamas."

Look at all those firsts!

Think about all the things we've done for the first time and never even registered as a first. We just did them. They were just life.

For D.J., every single one of them was brand new.

D.J. was placed in foster care when he was five. The relative who adopted him turned out to be abusive. At 18, he was put out.

Not sent to college. Not helped into an apartment.

Put. Out.

And he figured it out all the way to Clark Atlanta University, where he is a rising senior.

Then, someone took our baby on a trip and I'm so happy he got to get all this newness in his life.

Thank you for helping us take care of D.J. these last couple of years.

With that said, the Adopt A Scholar lists are open. Whatever your budget, we need you. The last day is June 21st.

It’s DAY 1 of Adopt-A-Scholar week!

I looked at what some of our scholars are doing this summer and got a little emotional.

Not because of where they are.

Because I know where some of them started.

Stories that involved loss.
Stories that involved survival.
Stories that involved having to grow up way too fast.

And now they're building futures that once felt out of reach.

One is studying abroad in Barbados.

One just graduated, landed a full-time job at Wells Fargo, and is moving into her first apartment.

Another is headed to Washington, D.C. to advocate for foster youth and help shape policy.

Let that sink in.

That's why Adopt-A-Scholar Week matters.

Because every scholar deserves more than a move-in day.

They deserve somebody in their corner.

Visit their wish lists and help remind them: they don’t have to face summer alone.

Last year, during Amazon's Deck the Dorm Challenge, we handed a room full of strangers dorm room essentials and 3 minutes on the clock.

For some reason, they said, "Bet." 😂

Three minutes later, the room was decked out, Move-In Day Mafia unlocked a $10,000 donation from Amazon.com And Deck the Dorm became an instant HBCU Bingo favorite!
