🎉 55 Years of Friendship. 55 Years of Recovery. 55 Years of Community.

Today, Community Friendship, Inc. celebrates 55 years of service to the Atlanta community.

Since 1971, CFI has walked alongside individuals living with mental illness as they build lives of recovery, stability, purpose, and connection. What began more than five decades ago has grown into a continuum of services supporting hundreds of individuals each year through behavioral health services, housing, homeless outreach, employment, peer support, and community-based care.

So much has changed in 55 years, but one thing has remained constant: our belief in the potential of every person we serve.

This milestone belongs to so many people. To the individuals who have trusted us to be part of their recovery journeys. To the staff who have dedicated their careers to this mission. To our Board members, volunteers, community partners, donors, families, and friends who have helped make this work possible. Thank you.

As we celebrate where we have been, we are also looking ahead.

This week we celebrated success 🎉 CFI’s Work Opportunities Award Celebration is a special time to recognize the dedication, growth, and achievements of individuals in our program who have obtained competitive employment over the past six months.

Each award represents more than a new job. It represents hard work, perseverance, increased independence, and another step forward in recovery and reaching personal goals.

CFI is excited to serve as a community site for first-year medical students through Emory University’s Community Learning and Social Medicine (CLSM) Course!

We recently had the opportunity to connect with Emory’s first-year medical students and share what they can expect when choosing CFI for their community experience or project.

We’re looking forward to welcoming students to CFI and giving future physicians a firsthand look at psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery, and the importance of community-based mental health services. 💚

This week, four members of the Community Friendship team had the opportunity to attend the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network’s W.A.V.E.S. Conference on Jekyll Island!

W.A.V.E.S. — We Are Voices Empowering Support — brought together peers, professionals, advocates, and community partners from across Georgia for three days of learning, connection, and conversations centered on recovery and peer support.

We are proud to invest in opportunities for our staff to step away from their day-to-day work, learn from others, build connections, and return to CFI with new ideas and renewed energy to support the individuals we serve.

We can’t wait to see what they bring back to the CFI community! 💙🌊

What an incredible afternoon at Community Friendship’s Annual Impact and Celebration Luncheon!

We are so grateful to our Board of Directors, community partners, supporters, staff, and friends who joined us to celebrate another year of transforming lives through recovery, housing, and hope.

A special thank you to our keynote speaker, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, for sharing his perspective on the importance of collaboration and community. We are also honored to recognize Andy Lundsberg of Bull Realty and Dr. Mia van Schalkwyk of Brenau University with our 2026 Impact Partner Awards for their outstanding partnership and commitment to our mission. In addition, we proudly presented the Marion Fern Award to Shirley Estell in recognition of her exceptional dedication, compassion, and lasting impact on the individuals and communities we serve.

Every success story we shared is possible because of the collective efforts of those who believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to recover, thrive, and belong.
