Animal Haven of Asheville

Animal Haven of Asheville Situated on ten acres, Animal Haven of Asheville rescues and rehabilitates farm animals. Animal Haven of Asheville receives no city, county, or state funding.

Founded in May of 2000 by Barbara Bellows and Trina Hudson, Animal Haven of Asheville is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization that provides food, shelter and veterinary care to homeless and abused farm animals. We are a unique sanctuary in Western NC offering cage free living, a lifetime home for those not adopted, and a "hands on" humane education program for people of all ages. Animal Haven o

f Asheville works with the local Meals on Wheels program providing pet food assistance, enabling those senior citizens whose only companion is their pet to keep them. We have an on-site 1,500 square foot, volunteer-run thrift shop, the proceeds of which directly benefit the animals in our care. We operate our sanctuary through private donations, fundraisers, grants, mailings, and our thrift store. We are a volunteer-based organization. For more information call 828-299-1635 or visit our website. Sanctuary and Thrift Store hours this week:

The root word for animal is “anima” which means soul. Looking into an animal’s eyes connects you to their sentience. You tap into a quiet understanding that transcends language. This deep, wordless communication is how you can see an animal's soul. Have you ever really looked into an animals eyes? What do you see?

We are off to cause a kerfuffle! A kerfuffle refers to a fuss, commotion or comical disturbance rather than a serious conflict. Things running a farm Animal sanctuary teaches you:
If the animals are quiet there might be a kerfuffle and you should panic! This place is a little bit of crazy.

Temps are heating up. Watermelon is a highly hydrating and vitamin-rich snack for many farm animals, providing a refreshing boost on hot days. It is a favorite snack not only of the pigs but also of the goats, chickens and our cow Tulsi. Here is Tulsi enjoying a tasty snack. The kids would love it if you brought a watermelon or two with you when you visit. Fresh produce always appreciated!

What do you mean I can’t eat this?
Juno says why are you still standing there laughing? I was just trying to remove (eat) the label off the wheelbarrow for you but now it’s glued onto my beard! GET IT OFF! Admit it, life would be boring without me!
Juno was actually born at Animal Haven two weeks after his mom Ariel arrived at the sanctuary, pregnant and malnourished. Ariel was seized by Animal Control for neglect and although she has passed away he now lives the good life on the farm with all his goat friends. He is quite the character.

Please help us help the animals by spreading the word and sharing this post.
We wanted to give you a quick update on our shoe drive. We’re in the final stretch and we’re getting close, but we still need your help to reach our goal of 100 bags by June 22!
If you haven’t had a chance to bring in your own shoe donations yet, please do. Every pair makes a difference.
You can also help us by reaching out to people in your life who might have shoes to spare, including neighbors, coworkers, friends, family, HOAs, places of worship, or any groups you’re part of. Even a small collection from each person adds up quickly.
Join us at Asheville Sports club on Sat or your donations can be dropped off at our Thrift Store.

This is what we do. We love dogs and cats BUT we are a farm animal rescue. We can’t tell you how many phone calls we get each week with folks wanting to rehome their dog, get help for injured wildlife or that have found a stray cat. We know how stressful it can be when you’re seeking help for an animal but we just don’t have the manpower to respond to all these calls. We have created a Companion Animal resource guide and posted it on our website to assist with these inquires. We have also changed our voice mail message asking people to refer to this guide instead of leaving us a message. The link to the guide is in comments.
Thanks for your understanding.

We received this quote and these AMAZING photos from Robert, a friend and incredible photographer. This time it was the goats- hopefully he will be back soon and capture more of the beauty and personality of our kids. Thanks Robert!
