We are so grateful to The Caitlin Westerfield WiStem Fund for their generous support! The WiSTEM Fund helps create the conditions that enable girls and women to discover, pursue, persist, and thrive in STEM, such as curiosity, confidence, community, and celebration. Like with the WiSTEM Fund, at Boolean Girl, we teach those same durable skills through coding and engineering. These skills help girls succeed in life as they pursue STEM or any other career.

Afterschool Alliance's Special Report on STEM shows that there are more STEM programs, but almost 23 million students are still missing out! According to the report, parents choose afterschool programs that build confidence, a sense of belonging, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking...over STEM or any other subject. But these durable skills are exactly what Boolean Girl’s afterschool STEM programs teach through coding and engineering!

On Saturday, we got to spend the day sharing Boolean Girl's mission with kids and families at the National Book Festival! This was our second year participating as a featured Featured STEM District Organization, and we are so grateful to the Library of Congress for including us again.

During our presentation, we played an "egg toss" game with micro:bits to demonstrate how we have fun combining coding and engineering with creativity!

Boolean Girl will be a Featured STEM District Organization at the Library of Congress National Book Festival coming up on Saturday, August 22 at at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center!

Stop by our table to experiment with conductivity! Young learners will get to use a micro:bit computer with wire leads that can test the ability of an object to conduct electricity.

We'll also be demonstrating micro:bits firsthand in a much less messy "egg" toss. By using the micro:bit's accelerometer, children will see the G-force on the egg (micro:bit) as they toss them.

Check out the schedule and get your tickets here: https://bit.ly/4xKTvob

(Tickets are FREE but required.)

This weekend, Boolean Girl got an amazing opportunity to take part in America's 250th Birthday Cake, which is being created by some incredible artists as a gift to the nation by the people, for the people. Two of our instructors, Abbey and Aria, and Rose, a Boolean Girl student, participated in the construction of the cake! They got to meet Grace "Grey" Pak of NETFLIX's "Is It Cake?" and shared Boolean Girl's mission with the cake team!
