Cancer care at VHC Health is coming together under one roof at the new Arlene Evans and Barry Dewberry Cancer Center, made possible in part by a $17.5 million gift. From the moment a patient hears a cancer diagnosis through treatment, recovery, follow-up care, and everything in between, the center is designed to bring those different steps, specialists, and services together in one place. We’re putting the community first by making cancer care more connected, more personal, and easier to navigate at every step.

❓Am I at risk for diabetes?
Every day, 4,000+ Americans are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Knowing your risk and getting screened helps you better manage your health.

🩺 What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition where your body does not make enough or use insulin well enough to lower your blood sugar. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause complications such as an increased risk of heart disease or stroke, kidney disease, or eye problems.

⚠️ Know your risk.
Risk factors for diabetes include a family history such as a parent, grandparent or sibling with diabetes; being overweight or obese; physical inactivity; a history of prediabetes or gestational diabetes.

✅ Get Screened.
An Hgb A1c is a lab test showing your 90-day blood sugar average and an A1c result of 6.5% or higher is diabetes. A Fasting Blood Glucose test is part of your basic lab panel or it can be a fingerstick before breakfast - a result of 126 mg/dL or higher is in the diabetes range.

👉 Take the next step.
Having a diagnosis of diabetes isn’t the end! A Diabetes Self-Management Education Program, such as the American Diabetes Association-recognized program at VHC Health, can help you lower your blood sugar, learn healthy eating habits, get more active, and reduce your risk of diabetes-related complications.
