For more than 100 years, Cherrydale Library has been more than a place to borrow books, it has been a place where the Langston Boulevard community comes together.
Its story began in 1922, when local residents came together to create a community library. Over the years, neighbors continued to advocate for and support the library, eventually helping bring the current building to life in 1961. Designed in the Mid-Century Modern style, it was Arlington’s first purpose-built branch library and remains the oldest surviving branch library in the county.
The building is only part of the story. For generations, Cherrydale Library has been a place for children, families, neighbors, programs, learning, and connection.
That’s what makes libraries such important third places, welcoming spaces outside of home and work where people can gather, connect, and feel part of their community without having to spend a dime.
A century later, Cherrydale Library remains an important part of the history and the everyday life of Langston Boulevard.
