Racism is not just rhetoric, and when left unchecked, it destroys lives.

Yesterday, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, just to have freedom taken away from three Black lives in Jacksonville, Florida, at the hands of white supremacy.

We know thoughts and prayers are not enough to erase hatred and gun violence.

We are thankful for the leaders we train who are rooted in equity and anti-oppression, whether that is speaking out against harmful education policies, fighting laws that uphold white supremacy, and exposing racism however it shows up.

New Leaders Council is committed to dismantling white supremacy in all its forms, whether it appears in practice or policy.

Equitable change is not a distant goal, but something that must be fervently pursued every day by every leader. As humanitarian crises increase across the world - in Ukraine, but also across the Middle East, South America, Asia, Africa, and in our own backyards here in the U.S. - we acknowledge the fear and uncertainty that communities across the globe, including our NLC community, are facing right now. We need leaders who protect human rights and pursue equitable progress. We send deep gratitude to the many NLC alumni who are the leaders working to advance equity across the world and at home, who advise our world leaders on diplomacy, and who provide aid and resources to those suffering on the frontlines of conflict.
