When Mark came to Arlington Community Resource Center, he had just taken a major step forward. He moved into his first apartment at 57 years old after five years of experiencing homelessness and completing treatment.

Although this was an important milestone, the transition came with unexpected challenges. Mark quickly struggled to keep up with expenses he had not anticipated, including rent and utility costs. These barriers put his new housing at risk almost immediately.

With timely support from ACRC, he was able to receive assistance with his past-due rent and utility bills. This gave him the breathing room he needed to regain stability.

Alongside this support, Mark began building essential skills through budgeting guidance and renter education, tools that would help him maintain long-term stability.

Today, Mark is maintaining stable housing on his own and continues to stay committed to his sobriety. He has built confidence in managing his finances and is focused on creating a healthier, more independent future.

Mark is also working on writing a book about his experiences with mental health and addiction. He hopes that by sharing his story, he can encourage others to reach out for help and remind them that change is possible.

Mark’s journey is a powerful reminder that it does not always take a lot to make a lasting impact. Sometimes a little help at the right moment can make the difference between losing everything and building a new beginning.
