Evergreen Soaring Western Washington's Premier Soaring Club! Join us or try a flight at www.evergreensoaring.info The freedom and exhilaration of soaring are incomparable!

By using currents of rising air for lift, you can fly hundreds of miles over several hours on a good soaring day. Soaring is also known as gliding - one of the oldest forms of flying. People were flying gliders for many years before powered airplanes came about, including the Wright Brothers! In the early days, a glider-ride usually meant a short flight, probably launched from a hilltop. Today we

fly sailplanes: high performance aircraft that can stay aloft for long periods of time, and all with no motor!

Annika Pexton has officially become the world’s youngest Certified Flight Instructor!

On her 18th birthday, she passed her Commercial Pilot flight test and followed it up by passing her Certified Flight Instructor-Glider practical test. She completed both milestones during a single marathon day that began at 0630 and concluded at 8:00 in the evening.

Shared with pride by Annika's instructor, Mike Friend.

Annika Pexton is setting the pace at Evergreen Soaring today!

Her maiden flight in a Discus lasted almost 3 hours and included an out-and-return to Mt. Pilchuck - the first time she's flown to Pilchuck by herself. Well done Annika!

News Flash:

Zach Schrempp (center) gained his Commercial Glider rating with Examiner Eric Haupt (left) this afternoon at KAWO.

With the assistance of his recommending CFIG Dave Reusch (right) and an able group of club members serving as ground crew, Zach aced the rides to Commercial standards and can now officially fly gliders for “compensation or hire” as the rules state his privileges.

Congrats Zach ! Next stop…. CFIG ??

Cheers, Linda

Great news: Evergreen Soaring club member Jennifer Hunt has completed her CFIG Checkride!

Initial preparations were started at our club with focussed study and flight instruction practice undertaken over the holidays in fairer weather at Seminole Lake, FL.

Jennifer Hunt is the fourth recipient of the SSA CFIG Incentive Scholarship by Evergreen Soaring club members, which is significant because these SSA incentives have helped our club to refresh our instructor pool over the last few years.

Congratulations Jennifer, and thanks SSA for an effective club development program.
