Volunteer with ReLeaf Michigan at Arts, Beats & Eats Sept. 4–7 in downtown Royal Oak! 🌳

We’re asking for one 4–5 hour shift at our beverage booth to help support tree planting and education across Michigan.

Bring a friend and come help make one of ReLeaf Michigan’s fundraisers a success! No experience needed — volunteers receive a ReLeaf t-shirt and all the details before the event.

Volunteers receive a festival wristband and parking pass for the whole weekend of festivities as a thank-you for supporting ReLeaf Michigan’s mission.

🌳 BIG TREE HUNT COUNTY WINNER 🌳

This week, we are celebrating the Big Tree Hunt winner for Ingham County!

🏆 Tree Species: Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides)
📏 Circumference: 245 inches
📍 Location: Holt
🌱 Nominated by: Iain Walker

This eastern cottonwood was identified as the largest tree submitted in Ingham County during our 2023-2025 contest.

Did you know? The fluffy white “cotton” produced by eastern cottonwoods is not pollen. It helps the tree spread its seeds. These native trees can also support over 250 species of butterflies and moths.

This week, we are celebrating the Big Tree Hunt winner for Huron County!

🏆 Tree Species: Weeping willow (Salix babylonica)
📏 Circumference: 286 inches
📍 Location: Ubly

This weeping willow was identified as the largest tree submitted in Huron County during our 2023–2025 contest.

Weeping willows made a noticeable showing in the last hunt: 8 of the 77 county-winning trees listed in our results were weeping willows. That makes them one of the most common species among our county winners.

Weeping willows have a way of becoming part of a place. Their long, hanging branches can create deep shade and a space that feels like a room beneath the tree. For many people, they are tied to childhood memories, favorite parks, or places they have known for years.

Weeping willows are fast-growing trees that do best where they have plenty of room and access to moisture. They are better suited to open areas near ponds, streams, or other moist soils than tight spaces near homes, sidewalks, septic systems, or underground utilities. In the right location, they can grow into large trees that create positive memories.
