New Art, New Artists (NANA) is an initiative proudly presented by The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original. This program focuses on fostering the growth and development of emerging college artists in Michigan.

NANA provides a unique opportunity for six exceptional MI college students, carefully selected through a rigorous jury process to showcase their talent in a curated booth space. These students not only retain ALL proceeds from their sales 💵 but also benefit from the collaborative environment and mentorship.💪

To ensure their success, our NANA college students receive personalized one-on-one mentoring from the experienced staff at . This mentoring began upon their acceptance and continues through the Fair in July. Each student is connected to seasoned Art Fair artist mentors who serve as valuable resources.

In addition they receive mentorship from AASAF Board Member John Stanley, a distinguished figure in the art museum world. With a career spanning roles at institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Toledo Museum of Art, he brings invaluable expertise to NANA artists.

The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original is excited to announce our 2026 Youth Art Fair Guest Mentors 📖 Caroline Huntoon and Deb Pilutti!

Authors and will be joining our mentorship series to share their experiences, creative journeys, storytelling processes, and insight into the world of children’s literature and publishing.

🧡We are excited to introduce Caroline Huntoon to our artists this year and know their perspective and creative work will be inspiring. Caroline Huntoon (they/them) is a nonbinary storyteller and educator and the author of Skating on Mars, Linus and Etta Could Use a Win, and Going Overboard, all from Feiwel and Friends/Macmillan. They write stories for young people about loss, identity, and friendship that validate the messy and wonderful parts of growing up.

🧡We welcome back Deb Pilutti for her third year with the program. Deb is the author of “The Old Rock(is not boring)”, The Secrets of Ninja School, and more. Using a cozy blend of textures, and thoughtful color palettes, each of her artworks feel truly comforting. Before becoming a children’s book creator, Deb worked in graphic design, designing theme park attractions and toys for nationally known companies including SeaWorld and Warner Brothers. Her sessions over the past two years have been inspiring, engaging, and incredibly meaningful for our artists.

Opportunities like these are an important part of the Youth Art Fair experience, giving young artists direct access to professional authors and illustrators who encourage creativity, storytelling, and artistic growth.

We look forward to sharing more details soon about upcoming sessions and author spotlights!
