Our Regional Child Care Coalition staff had the honor of recognizing employers in Region 6 and 9 at the Child Care Champions of Michigan 2026 event yesterday in East Lansing. Congratulations to Suncrest Child Care Center/Lapeer County Medical Care Facility and Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation for being Child Care Champions!

We all have a shared role in our communities to make sure child care is part of economic development. Collectively, we have shared power to make lasting systems change and to make early childhood part of our everyday work, impacting thousands of families. When early childhood works, we all work.

Where do you have influence? What would be different if you were a child care champion because you chose to act?

We are thrilled to share that Child Care Network will continue supporting our early education programs in Region 9 for the Great Start to Quality Resource Center work, and now we have the privilege of extending that support to Regions 8 and 6! As we move through this transition, we thank our communities in advance for your support and for your grace. We look forward to connecting with early education programs and community partners across the regions and continuing this important work together!

Michigan is strengthening support for child care providers and early learning programs across the state.

MiLEAP and the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) have announced seven organizations selected to operate Great Start to Quality Resource Centers across all 10 of Michigan’s economic development regions, beginning Oct. 1.

The Resource Centers will provide coaching, technical assistance, training and resources to help child care providers strengthen program quality and support high-quality early learning experiences for children and families.

This work also supports Every Child Reads by helping early childhood programs build the language, literacy and communication skills children need for future reading success.

📣Provider Alert for programs who participate in the CDC Scholarship Program
MiLEAP has been informed that the Michigan Office of Auditor General (OAG) will be conducting an audit of the CDC Scholarship program beginning this week.

Audits are a routine part of government oversight and help support program integrity, accountability and the responsible use of public funds.

The OAG has informed MiLEAP that it is planning unannounced visits to a small number of child care providers that have received a CDC scholarship payment and underwent review between October 1, 2024 and May 31, 2026.

As part of this audit, the OAG is assessing MiLEAP’s efforts:
• To select child care providers for time and attendance reviews designed to identify fraud and other program violations.
• To disqualify childcare providers it found to have committed intentional program
violations.
