Officer Vernon “Eugene” Rodgers of the Chesterfield Police Department wins the September 2026 Community Hero Award.

Throughout the month of September Ofc. Rodgers repeatedly demonstrated exceptional vigilance, decisive action, and an unwavering commitment to public safety.

On September 18th reports indicated a known high-risk individual frequenting local walking trails. This suspect had a criminal history of violence against women and also had an active arrest warrant. Ofc. Rodgers initiated a targeted search and successfully tracked down the suspect, removing a dangerous predator from the community.

On September 28th while on midnight patrol, Ofc. Rodgers was notified of suspicious activity at a local business. His rapid response enabled him to thwart a burglary in progress and apprehend the suspect that was found inside the building.

The MCLEF Board of Directors wishes to CONGRATULATE Ofc. Rodgers for his dedicated service and outstanding accomplishment.

💙 National Thank a Police Officer Day 💙

Being a police officer is more than putting on a uniform and going to work. It means walking toward situations others walk away from. It means missing holidays, birthdays, family dinners, and precious moments because someone else needed help. It means carrying the weight of difficult calls long after the shift has ended.

And behind every officer is a family who waits for them to come home, worries when the phone rings, and understands that every goodbye carries a little more weight.

To the officers who serve with courage, compassion, and heart — thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices that people may never see, for the lives you touch, and for continuing to show up even on the hardest days.

And to the families who stand beside these officers, support them, worry about them, and love them through it all — thank you, too. Your sacrifice matters just as much.

Today, we don't just thank the badge. We thank the person wearing it.

You are appreciated. You are respected. You are loved. And we are grateful for you every single day.
