A little spooky fun for a great cause! 🎃👻

Tonight, East Central Indiana CASA joined the Halloween festivities at Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing and Casino annual Fright Night Trunk or Treat!

Kaydee Tipton and Hayley Ethridge represented CASA, handing out candy and sharing lots of smiles with the tiniest ghouls and goblins in our community!

We had a SPOOK-tacular time and loved seeing all the creative costumes and excited little faces!

A big thank you to Harrah’s Hoosier Park for hosting such a fun event for local children and families. We’re always happy to be part of the fun in our community!

Today, on Global Adoptee Remembrance Day, we pause to honor adoptees whose stories included loss, trauma, abuse, neglect, mental health struggles, or lives cut short.

This day also brings awareness to the parts of the adoption experience that are not always seen or openly talked about. For many adoptees, adoption can hold both love and loss, belonging and grief.

At East Central Indiana CASA, we believe every child deserves safety, stability, truth, and a voice. As we advocate for children and families, we also recognize that healing is complex and that every child’s story matters.

Today, we remember. We listen. We honor adoptee voices.

After 7 years as a CASA volunteer, Susie Hughey knows just how rewarding this experience can be.

You don’t need special qualifications or endless free time. Just a willingness to show up, care, and speak up for a child who needs someone in their corner.

Seven years later, Susie is still saying YES to CASA!

❤️ What if 2027 was the year you changed someone else’s life?

As we head into the final months of 2026, many of us are starting to think about the year ahead. The things we want to change. The habits we want to break. The goals we want to accomplish.

But here’s something else worth thinking about: How are we spending our time, and is it making the difference we want it to make?

A 2026 study found that Americans spend an average of 4 hours and 5 minutes a day on their smartphones. That’s the equivalent of more than 60 FULL DAYS every year!

And according to Pew Research Center, 53% of American adults admit they spend too much time on their phones.

Now, we’re certainly not here to make anyone feel guilty about screen time. Life is busy. We all need time to unwind, and our phones are part of how we work, connect, and live.

But it does make you wonder…

What if we took just a little of that time and invested it in something that could make a difference for years to come?

For a child experiencing abuse or neglect, having one consistent adult who shows up, listens, follows through, and speaks up for their best interests can mean so much.

That’s what our CASA volunteers do. ❤️

And here’s something we wish more people knew: You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t need a background in law or social work.

You just need a willingness to learn, a heart for children, and the commitment to show up.

So here’s our challenge for 2027.

Take a look at your screen time this week. Think about where your hours are going. Then ask yourself one question:

Could I make room in my life to be the difference someone else needs?

Maybe you’ve thought about volunteering before. Maybe you’ve been waiting for the perfect time. Maybe you’ve never considered becoming a CASA until right now.

We would love for you to consider making 2027 the year you become a voice for a child in our community.

Sometimes, the timing just feels right. 💙

For new CASA volunteer Paula Bivens, that time is now!

Maybe you’ve thought about becoming a CASA volunteer before, but life was busy. The kids were little. Work was demanding. There was always something else that needed your attention.

And maybe you’ve reached a point where you’re ready to give a little of your time to something that can make a lasting difference.

That’s exactly what we’re talking about in this week’s volunteer interview with Paula. She knew it was her time to become a CASA.

The truth is, there will always be reasons to wait. But somewhere in our community, there are children waiting for someone to step up, speak up, and be a voice for them.

So we’re asking you the same question: When will the timing be right for YOU? 💙
