Flood Aid for Anderson Applications Are Now Available

Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors and the overwhelming support of our community, Flood Aid for Anderson is now accepting applications for financial assistance.

If you experienced flood-related damage and need stopgap help before FEMA and insurance can kick in as you begin the recovery process, we encourage you to apply.

TUESDAY FLOOD RELIEF & RECOVERY UPDATE

As flood recovery continues across Anderson and Madison County, here are a few important updates for Tuesday:

SNAP REPLACEMENT DEADLINE EXTENDED
Madison County SNAP households that lost food because of the August storms, flooding or related power outages now have through August 31 to request replacement SNAP benefits. An affidavit is required. Information and instructions are available on our Flood Relief Resource Page.

CITY OF ANDERSON EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
The City of Anderson has announced a new $1,000 emergency assistance program for eligible flood-impacted primary residences located directly in or adjacent to the floodplain. Homeowners and renters may qualify. The City is still finalizing the process, with an application expected later this week. We will add application information as soon as it is officially available.

FREE FLOOD CLEANUP ASSISTANCE
Baptist Disaster Relief teams are assisting residents with flood-damaged homes, including assessments, mud-out and cleanup work. Information for requesting assistance is now available on the resource page.

FLOOD AID FOR ANDERSON
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Flood Aid for Anderson. Funds raised will provide direct assistance to residents and businesses impacted by the flooding. Additional information about the assistance process will be shared soon.

For those who had the privilege of knowing Sue Patton, it is difficult to separate the work she did from the way she made people feel. Sue brought warmth, compassion, humor, and a deep sense of care into the Madison County Community Foundation every day.

As MCCF’s Director of Finance, Sue was exceptionally good at what she did. She loved numbers, took seriously the responsibility of stewarding the Foundation’s resources, and helped ensure that those resources could continue doing good throughout Madison County. But Sue was so much more than her title. She was a trusted coworker, a friend, an advocate, and someone who genuinely cared about the people around her.

Sue believed deeply in love, acceptance, inclusion, and treating every person with dignity. Those values were evident in her relationships, her volunteer work, her love for her family, and the way she approached her work at the Foundation. She listened well, cared deeply, and had a way of making people feel seen and welcomed.
That compassion extended to animals as well. Sue was an animal lover, and her beloved cat, Peyton, held a particularly special place in her heart

Following Sue’s passing, the Sue Patton Compassion for Animals Fund was established at Madison County Community Foundation as a lasting way to honor a part of Sue that those closest to her knew well. The field of interest fund will support organizations and efforts that care for animals throughout Madison County.

It feels especially fitting that Sue, who spent her career at MCCF helping care for resources that would serve this community far into the future, will now have an endowment bearing her name. Through it, her compassion will continue to reach beyond her lifetime, caring for animals, strengthening the community she loved, and carrying forward a little more of the kindness Sue gave so freely to all of us.

Following the tremendous response to Flood Aid for Anderson, work is underway to provide direct support to Anderson residents and local businesses impacted by the recent flooding.

The Flood Aid for Anderson effort is being carried forward collaboratively by Anderson AIMS, the Anderson Gaslight Festival, and the Madison County Community Foundation, with MCCF serving as the charitable steward of the fund.

The fund is not yet open for applications, but the application is expected to be available within the next few days. Once it opens, residents and businesses impacted by the flood will be able to submit a request for assistance. The process will be clearly explained and designed to be easy to follow, and applications will be reviewed to help ensure available funds are distributed fairly and responsibly.

This relief effort came together extraordinarily quickly because our community responded extraordinarily quickly. We are working with that same sense of urgency while also taking the care necessary to steward these community-raised funds well.

As recovery continues across Madison County, here are a few important resources and opportunities for today:

TODAY: FREE FLOOD CLEANUP SUPPLIES + TETANUS VACCINATIONS

Free buckets of household cleaning supplies are available for Madison County residents impacted by flooding. Tetanus vaccinations will also be available onsite.

Join the community for live music, special guests, food trucks and fundraising to help Anderson residents and businesses impacted by the flooding.

STATE DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE NOW AVAILABLE

Madison County residents whose primary residence was damaged by the August 11 flooding may be eligible for up to $5,000 in emergency aid through Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund for eligible uninsured losses.
