Last Sunday on 60 Minutes, a segment on canine cancer aired. The story highlighted how similar canine and human DNA are. Clinical trials of canines with naturally developing cancers are helping people with the same cancers.

Thanks to the many genes dogs share with humans, dogs diagnosed with cancer are being studied to see which treatments could potentially save them and us.

After losing Scout last year to hemangiosarcoma-HSA- (a very aggressive blood cancer) as well as our first German Shepherd, Schatz, I decided I had to do something about this.

I created a foundation to fund the cure for HSA and now it is official in every way. is officially a 501(c)3 charitable organization.

My company, will donate a portion of our profits to the foundation to fund research to find the cure for hemangiosarcoma. There is promising research that has been paused due to lack of funding.

Too many of our furry pals are succumbing to this horrible disease and I am making it my mission to find the cure in my lifetime.

Join me so no families will have the heartbreaking news that an HSA diagnosis brings.

Today is the one year mark of Scout passing from hemangiosarcoma (HSA).

To honor Scout, I spoke to 150 students in the entrepreneurship program at Ball State University about Scout and Zoe and our journey with the company I started to help with their allergies, ScoutandZoes.

Today is also the day Scouting for the Cure officially became a charitable organization.

It is with deep love for all my pups, but especially for Scout and Schatz, our pups who both passed away from HSA, that we carry forward and begin our journey to fund the research to find THE cure for canine cancer.

Join us on this journey so pups diagnosed with HSA can have many more sun-filled cancer-free days with their loving families.

"Your pup has cancer" are four of the worst words you will ever hear in a vet visit. I've heard those words twice and twice I've lost beloved pups to this horrible disease.

Hemangiosarcoma, or HSA, took Schatz, our German Shepherd in 1999, and Scout, our German Shorthaired Pointer October 27, 2021.

Both times it was heart wrenching. It's not easy to lose a pet, but an otherwise healthy pup should not perish from something as horrible as cancer.

It is my mission to fund research to find THE cure for HSA in MY lifetime. There is promising research that has been conducted but is currently paused due to lack of funding.

Join me so we can find the cure so no pup will suffer from cancer and no family will grieve the loss of their beloved pet.
