Anderson Indiana Scholar House

Anderson Indiana Scholar House Anderson Scholar House helps single mothers graduate from college or a certified apprenticeship program. Our outcomes speak for themselves.

ASH provides stable housing, coordinated childcare, help with school admissions and financial aid, and coaching all they way through to graduation. Anderson Scholar House Indiana opened in January 2022, as an affiliate of Family Scholar House in Louisville, Kentucky. Family Scholar House was born from Project Women, an organization originally established in 1995 by representatives of six orders of

nuns. What began with only four families is now a recognized national best practice headquartered in Louisville, KY, serving more than 30,000 people annually and focused on education as a primary path for ending the cycle of inherited poverty. Anderson Scholar House provides stable housing, coordinated childcare, help with school admissions and financial aid applications, and provides a life coach and an academic coach throughout the entirety of the program. Programs and services are delivered through a two-generation model responsive to the needs of families and are provided for all ages. Participants have an 88% completion rate. Three months after leaving the program, 70% of participants no longer require any government assistance. This is especially impactful considering all our families had experienced poverty, unstable housing and, most often, domestic violence. You are eligible for Anderson Scholar House if you are a single mother who has their high school diploma or GED, who is interested in completing a post-secondary education program, and who is in need of housing. If you do not yet have your high school diploma, we can help you with that too. All JobSource services are provided without regard to race, age, color, religion, s*x, disability, national origin, ancestry or status as a veteran. JobSource is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

If you've ever been nervous about taking the first step to apply for a program, we want to introduce you to your new best friend.

Meet Kaitlyn! She’s our Intake Specialist, the first voice you hear at Heartland, and officially the funniest person in our office.

We put her on the hot seat to ask the real questions (like what weird question she wants to add to our application!).

Thinking about applying? Don’t be nervous. Kaitlyn’s got your back!

One of our Anderson moms moved here specifically to be part of Scholar House, and the community showed up for her in the most beautiful way.

A local man who restores furniture as a retirement passion project took on her old dresser, piece by piece, with the same love he puts into everything he makes. He handed it back gorgeous. And then he decided to do one a month for our Scholar House moms.

This is what community looks like. 🤍

What a night. 💛

Our Night of Fellowship was everything we hoped for and more. It was a night full of warmth and celebration of the incredible women in our Scholar House community.

There's something powerful about coming together: sharing a meal, sharing stories, and being reminded that none of us walk this journey alone. The energy in the room said it all. This is what community looks like.

To every Scholar Mom, supporter, and friend who joined us, thank you for making this evening so special. Nights like these remind us exactly why this work matters.

Want to view the documentary? We're offering private showings of the film. Reach out to our Development Director, Theda Parker, at [email protected] to bring the documentary to your church group, workplace, and/or community.

Here's to fellowship, to community, and our Scholars!!

Mandi is our first and longest-serving Scholar. So when she asked her Academic Coach to join her at Ball State orientation, it was an easy yes.

What followed was a full day of firsts. A campus so big it took nearly 7,000 steps to cross (yes, we tracked!). A conversation about study abroad that opened up a whole new world for her and her daughter. A moment standing in front of the Dean of the Social Work department, speaking with confidence about her future nonprofit.

There was a yard sign she had to track down herself. A free T-shirt she had to earn one conversation at a time. And a quiet realization that the community she found at Scholar House- the belonging, the support, the other moms- could exist at Ball State too.

Mandi walked onto that campus a little nervous. She walked off it BSU-bound and shining.

This is what it looks like when a mom gets the chance to dream bigger. Read her full story on our blog:

Something happened today that almost stopped this mom from finishing school.

She's okay. She's still enrolled. And that's because our emergency fund was there when she needed it most.

Thank you, donors. You made this possible.

We asked. They answered. ✨ With honesty, with heart, and with the kind of wisdom that only comes from living it.

These Scholar Moms didn't just share their stories, they reminded us why this village exists in the first place.

Their words speak for themselves. 🎓💛
